I'm in southwest Louisiana and have found lots of little fuzzy white caterpillars lately. Noticed yesterday they are eating my foliage, mostly in shady beds. Anyone know what to do?

You can research some of them in this webpage from the Alabama Extension Service: http://www.aces.edu/pubs/docs/A/ANR-1121/. It has lots of pictures to help identify some species. However, if you are squemish about caterpillars, I recommend you skip it. Luis

Hi Krista! Girl I don't know what they are either, but us in the Dallas Area have been invaded by them!! IT's been on tv and the newpaper. They chew the heck out of foliage!!!! I used Lemon joy and hot sauce ( Louisianna Red as a matter of fact )2 TBLE spoons each
in a 1liter spray bottle fill with water and shake! and get to spraying on top and underleaves and they went away for a long time . But after the last rain we had everyone at work came in last Monday sceaming THEY"REEEEE BAAAAAAAAAACK! So this weekend I did the same thing~ spray early in the morning before the sun hits the plants. I got tired of making the oneliter size and made a gallon and took the sprayer out of the bottle and put in the gallon jug.. I went thru 4 gallons spraying eveything including my porch and patio.. they cling to everything!! A guy at work said they are dropping from the trees cuz we had soooo much rain this spring and early summer!!

Nope I didn't see them in Luis's Link.. I'm surprised Luis didn't mention they were seen in Hurst as that's not far from me! Lucky Luis!!!! shock

There is a type of white fuzzy caterpillar that shows up about this time of year. As it matures it becomes progressively darker and darker until it is a very dark brown. I can't recall the name of it though... I'll look into though.

Laugher, Charadra deridens Is this it?
