Hello:

I have had great success this summer with coleus in pots on our back porch. They are so lovely and lush that I am wondering if anyone has had success in bringing them indoors for the winter and being able to keep them for next spring.

Thank you in advance.

Coleus make fabulous house plants and are very easily rooted for more plants. Bright light near windows and regular water. You can have a forest to replant next spring. I live in S. Cal now but my friend in NY used to keep them as house plants year round.

Thanks a bunch Tina for your reply.

I just could not bear the thought of losing these pretty plants.
We live in Pa and have already had 1 night of frost, I dread the thought of winter and not being able to be outside looking at all my plants.

Thanks

Take cuttings right away. They root in water fairly easily.

As Tina said, you can take cuttings, but you can also bring the pots indoors if you have room. I planted many different coleus this summer - some in large pots, and I am going to try and bring them all indoors. If I can't find room, I will definitely be taking lots of cuttings!

I bring mine in for the Winter, they do get get spindly and lose some leaves, but I just cut everything back in the spring at they bounce back.

Yeah, I must agree that Coleus make a really nice plant. They are also one of the easiest to propagate, needing only a small jar of water. I think you will find great success with your plants. Good luck!
