ACMoore was having a knitting demo day - it wasn't anything exciting - the woman I knew from last year's Warm Up America there was using a point thingy to "knit" in a frame - can't remember the name of it, and she hated doing it!!! Another woman was showing how people can felt yarn - I already know about that...

BUT... included in the demo was that we each got to chose a pair of light-up knitting needles - regular price of $15 and up! And any skein of clearance yarn for free!

So, I ended up with size 11 needles and a very large - 14 oz. skein of cotton yarn - reduced to $7.49! Now I need to find a project for this yarn - there is too much there to waste on making the washcloths... I need to find something larger, but not too large that I won't have enough yarn.

That is cool, Lynne. Glow in the dark needles. How about a couple of pillow covers in a fancy stitch?

Isn't this a cute little denim tote? Another freebie - this time from Liz at Michael's! I went to the first Warm Up America meeting there today, and also invited a new friend to come. Good thing, as once again, we were the only people to show up. We knit away for 3 hours, yakking and laughing and having a great time. At the end, the two of us were going to take some yarn home to continue knitting the rectangles for the blankets, and Liz jumped up and gave each of us a tote - it's so cute - only about 9 inches square, but perfect for the yarn I was taking!

Free is still very good!

Thanks, Jiffy! This yarn is soooo nice to work with! It's CARON Simply soft Quick - very very soft, and chunky! And doesn't hurt at all to use like Homespun. I made the first one on size 10 1/2 needles, but switched to 11, and it's not as bulky, and nicer. And boy, is this yarn ever warm!!! It will really make a nice blanket for someone - my hands were even sweating while I was knitting in Michael's!

you could do a kitchen set wit the blue yarn. Dish cloth, towel topper, maybe a couple place mats? a table runner?

Hey anyone have a pattern for a knitted towel topper? A pic would be nice as well.

Just got back from Michael's about an hour ago. I posted about the Warm Up America program in another thread here - that's why I went there - to get more yarn from Liz so I could make more rectangles.

BUT... while I was there, there was a shopping cart full of fun fur type yarns and Liz told me to help myself to anything I wanted!!! I didn't want to seem greedy, but she said to just go ahead, so I picked my way through the mess of tangled colors and fibers! I ended up with 28 skeins of the eyelash type yarns!!! And then a kid employee brought in 3 huge plastic bags of more yarn, and I got the ones in the third picture - she didn't let me pick through those, but rather handed me some from there.







I'm so excited that some cotton Sugar 'n Cream was included - more washcloths to be made!
38 skeins worth more than $40!!! WHOPPEE!!!

OK... soooooooo... I HAD to take this Halloween colored yarn - afterall.. it was FREE ya know? But what can I make with it? I don't want a scarf - I'm not going trick or treating, my kids are too old. Is there something decorative that I can use it for on the house? My friend stopped by there and she said she would definitely make a wig out of it! But I'm not going to wear a wig - hardly any kids come to the door anymore either. She wanted the yarn - I wouldn't give it to her!





It's not very thick yarn, and there's not a whole lot this yarn can be used for.

With the halloween yarn could you make something autumnIsh to hang on a door for halloween or thru fall or make into a wreath to put on a table to set a wide candle in Hmmmmmmmmm Just thinking of ways to use it for the fall!

That is even better than my Michael's deal about 3 weeks ago, Lynne. Good going. Yes, I can see door decor with that Halloween yarn. Or see if your kid wants a fun skinny scarf to gift to a friend.

Wow, what a cool present to recieve. Wonder if you could knit a spider web patterned table cloth or runner with that yarn, That would be cool.

Lynne, Ted and I went to Michael's about three weeks ago. I needed a different sized crochet hook than I can find around here. While I was browsing a lady came by and handed me a card with a coupon for 25% off of my complete puchase that day. So I loaded up a basket with yarn from their discount bin and checked out. Well the discount bin had been discounted again already. I got good stuff for about a quarter a skein. My camera still worked then.

Tina - that's a fantastic deal!!! WOW - yarn for a quarter! I would never have found something like that. If not for Liz, I've never gotten a bunch of yarn for less than $1 each.

I don't know what I'm going to do with it all. We don't have a lot of call here for scarves, mittens, hats, etc. We have a lot of those things already. I don't have any girly girls to dress any more. But it's so hard to stop picking up ball after ball, skein after skein. I might end up with a patchwork 'ghan with some of it.

Good deal on the yarn Lynne! Wish somebody would give me free yarn! That is awesome though!

I decided to make myself a skinny scarf with 2 of the Halloween colored skeins of yarn - I still have 4 skeins left! Since Amy is performing in a Halloween concert where everyone dresses up, I'll have this scarf to wear with a black top. I didn't enjoy working with this yarn - I had to use size 17 needles for it not to be too dense of a stitch!

Very nice Lynne! I have some of that eyelash yarn that I got through the crafter swap and I have a hard time working with it. Not sure what I will do with it. I started making a scarf but I tore it apart because it just wasn't working for me.

You need larger needles for eyelash yarn Jessica.

I don't know how to knit so I tried crocheting with it and I did use a bigger hook but it was a mess. Oh well I guess!

I can knit but don't know how to crochet Between the two of us we'd get some things done.

Yep we just might! I actually have some finished projects that I need to get pics of and get them posted.

When I knit with the Fun Fur when it first came out I used size 13 knitting needles. They worked fine.

But this Fancy Fur, with the nodules of yarn really needed the size 17 - the 15 and 13 were too dense and slow going. Even the 17 were slow going, and I'm glad it's finished!

Lynne, that came out very pretty. It it warm and practical too? Or better used as a fashion statement? It looks like it would make an awesome tied belt.

I just love it, it looks like candy corn in the black scarf. So 'Halloween' isn't it?

I went back to Michael's today, knowing that Liz would be there this afternoon, since I needed more yarn for Warm Up America. While I was there, she still had 2 of the large bags full of the yarn they are throwing out, and she said to help myself again! I told her I felt greedy, but she said I might as well use it instead of them disposing of it! So help myself I did!!! 55 skeins worth!!! wowzers!!! I will definitely use some of it to make scarves for the little girls who come into the woman's shelter with their moms - some of these kids are abused as much as their moms are!

A great haul, Lynne. And noble intentions for some of it. My Michael's is scaling down their Yarn and putting in more Seasonal stuff. It's all stored in the far depths of the store (I asked).
