devil devil yikes yikes yikes yikes yikes

I have come to a conclusion......I stand to be CORRECTED......If we are growing more than one types of the same flower........say morning glorys........
The seeds we pick will not be true to the parent??????
You tell me........

Reason I am scared; not really! I have 4 or 5 types of salvias growing and feel they might be hampered???????????? shock shock

Any pro's here to discuss? Or unpro's?

yikes yikes

Anything is possible Barb. Mother Nature makes sure of that, Nothing that I plant seems to come up the right colour. lol Cross pollination can sure play wild tricks sometimes.

Although cross pollination can occur, there are certain plants more susceptible. I have grown several types of MG's, some side-by-side, and have never had them cross pollinate. Same with salvias...I've grown coral and red next to blue, and always get the same color with the seedlings. So, hopefully, you'll be OK. Just collect seeds from different blooms and keep them separated so when you sow them you should get at least one set of the right color.

I know there are certain plants that are and can be widely crossed (like Alan mentioned) some that some to my mind are daylilies and hostas. Also things like sweet peas and possibly veggies

Helping the world one seed at a time

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee

I know veggies will.....

It said even if the neighbor has a brand it will cross if different.. Dang bees.

Definitely an unpro here, but I have been sort of taking mental notes since I've been growing from seed and saving seed and trading....

To be more accurate, each genus needs to be discussed separately, because each is different. I'm not suggesting a different thread for each plant, just that different things seem to happen with different kinds of flowers.

For instance, on the Sunflowers, the reds are almost always hybrids (F1) and they revert back to yellow or blotchy yellow & dull red on the F2 generation.

On marigolds, they not only cross breed, but there are new F1 hybrids out, and marigold plants/flowers are rarely the same as they were the year before. BUT some of the older ones are not hybrid and would come true, except that they cross breed, so you can only grow that kind. The fernleaf Gem series -- like Lemon Gem, are more likely to come true, and the ones they use for nematodes seem to come true, too. I think the African don't cross with the French style, so I think that makes them different species or sub species. This year my experiment was to only grow

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm why

YOu've quite a lip on you there........
I am not Luther Burbank or anything........don't wanna be.......Tell you why.
I understand there are millions of flowers it this lovely world ..........
The reason I trade and ask questins is, I like planting something different all the time.........
I feel Variety is the spice of life????????????
However if it is you desire to go into the f1 an f2 generations, so be it .

bop bop
I just want to have fun like Cindy.. (Where are you0

As you know
I am no pro
Yet, my thumb is green.

If the plants are hampered
if the plants are not
Remains yet to be seen.

All I know
Is from blue seed nigella
The flowers are NOW pink and blue

So on your birthday
you should cast a spell
so this does not happen to you.

My cape is down.
My broom is standing
To go out Candying.

October 31st
My birthday is coming.
The spell will be cast,
You will be Last........

I'm now pro,but have discussed this with a pro(Ron Convalance floating around the web) the impomea ones do not cross amoung theirselves,/but the purpurea& nil ones will can cross.there's also tricolor. The most detailed info will be found in davesgardenworld, but alas my sis no longer pays her dues...so I can no longer hack my way in over there.another option is searching over at GW in vines and will find many posts that he has answered with similiar inquires for close to 10 years.
here are tricolor

boy...your poor keyboard is going to be so WET when looking at these.you better go get some saran wrap to cover it.

I could think of a few spells you can cast as well..lol.I'll try to lose those evil thoughts though. The male species just can't help itself...but things will be more clear once Hillary is in THE HOUSE.
