Cool, is that veneer bead board? I have never seen it before but heard it is beautiful once painted as well.

New 'renos' just feel so good, don't they?

I'm allergic to sheetrock dust so we have to use other things. It is bead board. We are going to stain the baseboards and doors and paint the walls and ceiling. We have beadboard in part of the kitchen and the bathroom downstairs. I need some ideas about counter tops. The cabinet is cherry. We're putting down tongue and groove hardwood floors. We're going to paint the ceiling white but not sure about the walls. What do you think?

Sheri, My favorite counter choice would be tile. Something that won't over ride the beautiful cherry cabinet. Then paint your walls to match or contrast.

We have tile in the kitchen and I don't like it. Maybe we put down the wrong stuff but I dropped a glass on it and the edge piece chipped. I'd be concerned that if I drop my hair dryer tile would chipped off.

What colors would you use?

If it were affordable I'd do granite. I'm not a tile fan myself....my bathroom now has tons in it and I'm forever cleaning the grout on it. rspb When we redo I would love to have a solid surface.

As far as colors it just depends, do you want a bright and cheery bathroom or something darker, or something neutral?

I tend to like neutral walls so I can accent with splashes of whatever color I like, that way I'm not stuck with the walls being a color I get tired of.

It's looking good!

I find grout easy to clean. But I use straight bleach. Granite has it's own problems with moisture. Colors really depend on what you choose for the counters. And what you like. I love blues in the bath. So soothing.

I guess I just have so much tilework Tina I get sick of it....maybe in a small dose it wouldn't be so bad.....there's even tile on our ceiling in the bathroom. I'll be glad to see it go one day.

Blues are a nice soothing bathroom color! My moms is blue and white. Looks really clean and relaxing.

Mine is burgundy. But the walls are neutral so I can pull off all the burgundy accents.

I love tile....but that's just because I have none lol

Stain would be nice but you have to be careful because each piece of board is going to stain differently, better do a mini test on a few scrap pieces to check it first.

Personally myself, I'd paint it all especially since you are putting in hardwood floors. A creamy white on the walls and a light golden marble colour for a counter top(you'll be amazed at how beautiful laminate counter tops are now).

Another option is to add a chair rail half way around and paint the upper half and varnish the bottom(depending on the colour of your floors). Don't get me wrong, I like the stain idea as well....just that veneer board can stain streaky and mis-coloured as well.

Now I've probably gave you too much opinion lol

Loz, I think you're sick of tile like I am. I have it in my kitchen and it my bathroom. Johnny is a plumber and several years ago it was the "going thing" so we went over board.

Johnny stained the inside of one closet last night and I've decided to paint. Even with the uneven colors it looks good and in a bigger room with more sunlight I would probably do it, but it might make this room dark with the dark cabinet and wood floors. We'll have tile in the shower.

We are going to stain the moldings and the doors, paint the ceiling white, and I'll have to find a color for the walls.

We're not going to use granite on the counter, we'll probably go with marble. I'm going to look at lunch. Wish me luck.

Not hijacking the thread, just wanted to say that I have a marble rolling pin and that is true Loz, if you chill the marble it is amazing how great it rolls dough.

Back to the topic at hand now. What other colours do you have in your house?

I just read an article that says to make rooms look taller paint the baseboard and walls the same color. Part of this bathroom used to be a slanted attic space. Wonder if I should do that.

I also read an article last week about using a special type of ceiling paint to make the ceiling look further away but now I can't find the article. Anyone heard of this type of paint?

Nope, never heard of the ceiling paint but I would recommend that you buy special bathroom paint, it has a melamine additive that resists any mildew. I used it here, you could scrub it with a brush and it won't come off.

Did you go look at the marble yesterday?

Tamara if I could get you here with Johnny I think this project could get accomplished.

I found the Behr paint site and for 4.95 I can download a picture of my bathroom and see the walls painted a bunch of different colors.

I went to the Behr Paint site, paid $4.95 to be able to paint my room online and see how it will look, and now I've asked for my money back. Don't waste your 5.00. The demo is misleading in what it will do and it takes forever to do anything on there.

That sink is beautiful.

Word of advice...don't ever dye your hair in that sink though. Copper reacts with dyes. Don't want any green or orange hair in your future.

You're right. Copper is so pretty until it turns green. We had copper tops on the bay windows at one house and we don't know what got on them but even a professional cleaner couldn't get the green to go totally away.
