Hello great garden helpers!
A few months ago i took some cuttings from a Hydrangea plant, the cuttings were a success and i have a new plant with plenty of leaves. It is still in the pot i used to do the rooting; but my question now is this, should i thansplant it now to the garden? I am on zone 6a. So fall is basically here. I am afraid to kill it, but i know it will not survive the winter in that pot or inside. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

How big is the cutting and have you kept it in all this time? And when does the frost set in for you? Have to be careful not to stress the cuttings.

The cutting has been out in the garden all this time inside a pot. The first frost here in MA is around November 10. Last night i checked it and it has even more leaves.

I can't answer you.But I root mine in 4 inch pots& set in shade bed and cover with leaves.in spring I plant them out. The leaves protect them from frost besides being under cover of trees which all don't lose their leaves.are some youpon holly back there and some vines the hurricane tossed back this way.most of the cuttings make it.

Thank you NJ! Since my last post i decided to plant them. i covered them with a tall glass i had hanging around. Still is not showing signs of wilting (knock on wood) :). But lets see what happens. I really want it to survive the winter.

My young hydrangea cuttings are about 3ins tall, Last week I took them out of their pots and planted them in sheltered areas of my garden, I will replant them in spring to their permanant locations. I think I am in zone 6a too.
