What is a good fertilizer for ground cover around an office building? Not sure what kind. It has several dead spots and weeds throughout.

12-12-12 or 15-15-15 is a general fertilizer for planters. however, dead spots are caused by water shortage from bad coverage or head blockage. weeds need to be physically removed.

I just use a weaker solution of Miracle gro for all hanging baskets and plants.
When uncertain, less is always better.

me too but the baskets are not hanging.--I have a lot of Pots sitting around--brings the flowers and such up to my porch & deck

I also use Osmocote Veg & bedding plant food---I can't say I am overly impressed with it but after all I have bought it, so I will use it.

Pots would be no different than baskets hanging.
I use a weak soulution of miracle grow , just once a month.. My house planes and the ones outside in the summer..
THe only time I do it more often is when they are just starting to grow outside. I might do it weekly.

However the soil makes the difference...I have plenty of compose in mine.. Rotted manure.....It is the greatest.........But in town any compose you can make is very beneficial.........
RIght now I just let all the leave that fall into the bed, stay there.. It helps for composing and for protection.

I think you did what I did..
Miracle grow cannot be left in the sun......It some how turns to liquid in the sun.......

I learnt it the hard way.......Keep it in the shade only ..In a building if possible......
To disolve my miracle gro, put it into luke warm water first mix till ready and fill the rest of thee container to full.

Dodge--thanks--now I know what happened to my miracle grow--it is not liquid it just looks like somebody got it a bit wet. I still use it--

I am ok with my MG it is the Osmocote I am unhappy with. they are balls tht look like mustard seeds. You sprinkle them onto the soil & kinda work them in a bit & water as usual---perhpas it did what it was supposed to do but I just don't know--

about my soil---the stuff around the house, for the most part, is typical clay
My main flower bed is different--when we moved here I was SO unhappy to be withouth my good farm soil, my DH & I dug out about 6 inches or more worth of my 1 flower bed (it is right up against the house & window well and is the only one I had at the time) and replaced the clay soil with my rich farm dirt.--I keep the top covered with mulch to keep down the extra weeds--& so while I would like to add compost I do not see it happening there--is there some kind of liquid stuff I could add there---or something else I could do???

My veggie garden is a raised one & the DH fixed its soil up for me--garden soil/manure/sand--& it is doing real well--I am going to have to add to it in the spring---I am sure it needs replentishing now---

You both did it correctly.......That is how I start all my beds...
No sand but the good manure rotted down..

Each year I try to add a little more of the rotted manure.......To keep it at its finest.......Cause the plants take the nutrients out of the soil every year.
And one must replace it .
WHen I plant bulbs I use Bone mill it works wonders.....
Plants I use Miracle grow in the soil when I plant them in the spring.
