An ivy with two personalities?

Hi

I have an interesting situation with my ivy. It was kind of lifeless and had a fair number of leaves that were half brown. So I trimmed the ivy fairly significantly (it needed to be shaped anyway).

See the picture at the link below - now I have an ivy with the same brown leaf issue (top of picture) but there are also several bright green new leaves growing out (bottom of picture - I assume from the trimming?). But it's still fairly lifeless plant with numerous half brown leaves.

Any ideas how to fix this? I'm scratching my head!

Thanks!

I am not sure what caused the browning leaves. That can have several causes from sunburn, freezing, over feeding or over watering. But whatever the cause the roots are alive and well under there and attempting to revive the plant. I would cut off all brown growth so the plant won't expend energy trying to revive those. And see what happens with the new fresh growth.

Are you under or overwatering? Sorry I cannot get into your link but assume that your ivy is growing in a pot and not outside. I don't know what kind of soil you have in there, but you could try changing it, and see what happens. Sometimes old lifeless soil creates lifeless plants. Ivy's prefer semi shade and do not like intense sunlight so if it's getting too much sun, try moving it back a bit, or put it in a less sunnier window.
