I decided that I wanted moss between my stepping stones. I don't have a blender so I just decided to transplant the moss in my shade area to the walkway. I've got more weeds than I can shake a stick at.

So how do you get weeds out and not uproot or destroy the moss? I can't like use the 3 prong tool that I use on weeds elsewhere.

Any help would be appreciated.

well, I guess you could get a paint brush & paint Round-up on the weeds---and it should not be so labor intensive because I would think that one leaf per weed would get it to the root & kill thr whole weed, right ??....just be careful to not contaminate other parts of the moss or get it all over yourself.

I never have any luck with round up. I don't know why. But the weeds either don't die or come right back.

well there is a new extended time round-up now--so the weeds stay gone longer with it (supposedly) you could apply that or you could use whatever type of weed killer it is that you DO like,- using the same method.

I have heard that you could pour boiling water on weeds to kill them.

Do not use the extended kill Roundup. It doesn't work like regular stuff that travels through the plant to kill the root. It actually poisons the soil for a while. Not a good thing for future growing.

Yeah the extended is good for the driveway where I don't want any growth at all ever.

The boiling water didn't work on the weeds several years ago when I tried it. And with the moss right there I'm afraid the water would kill the moss and leave the weeds healthy.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm probably going to be down there with tweezers and a magnifying glass.

with mine, I just kinda parted the moss, Held it firmly in place & then pulled the weed out---but then I dont think I had as many weeds it sounds like you do.

I think I ended up with more weeds than I did moss. Teach me to try and use the wild stuff. I'll leave it in the shade from now on.

Guess what I found at wallyworld. Moss! So I bought 3 pots at 1.97 each and planted them in the walkway. I hope the do well.

Then I decided that if moss can be spread around by digging it up putting it in a blender with buttermilk and poured over the soil then it shouldn't mind being dug up and then put back down with soft soil around it and a good watering. So that's what I'm doing. I have 1/2 of the sidewalk done so far.

I saw on a Facebook post some time ago that someone blended moss with buttermilk and used a paintbrush to apply it to surfaces (and even did it in designs); I was semi tempted to do this to the huge boulders that line my neighbors property line so I have something to look at outside of my (home) office window other than weeds...

It does work. I just don't want moss in my food processor. And your rocks will need to be in a shady area. I think the moss I got called for 3 to 6 hours of sun only. Near the edges I may not be that shady but in the center section it is because of trees.
