When we first moved into this house, I saw a dead stump with some dried seed pods on it. It looked like a dead lilac to me and when I snapped the branch, it was brown so I knew it was dead for sure. Come spring, lots of foliage sprouted, and it had a squarish stem with a faint smell. I assumed it was a mint or something invasive. Now, I see flowers that are opened and they smell fantastic! I'm 99% sure its a butterfly bush...I've always wanted one, at least the previous owners left something good lol

Helping the world one seed at a time

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee

Does it smell spicey? All of my butterfly bushes do, no matter what the color of the flowers, and they also make me sneeze! But I have lots of them anyway!

I have a white one and purple one and they smell sweet - not spicey at all.
