lol some of my seeds say start 12 weeks before last frost date. i wouldn't have time to put my flowers to bed before I'd be planting seeds along with bulbs for the next year and then I wouldn't have any time to enjoy the holidays. Nope I think Mother Nature does just fine with the schedule. I wouldn't appreciate spring nearly as much if it weren't for winter.

I was telling DH that I'm gonna miss planting and digging in the spring...apparently he said he'd help......and if we have the extra money we'd just fill in spots with planters. He said he's also build me a little raised bed on legs for me to plant some veggies if I'm not healed up in time to garden.

~~Tam~ You can bury all your troubles by digging in the dirt.

I can see that for you--BUT I myself do not start too many seeds indoors--I eaitehr plant plants or just wait for the seeds to grow from when I plant them.

dad does h ave a green house though--I am sure I could 'borrow' a corner of it if I wished--perhpas I will try that this year--

fantastic. Nothing on mine yet. I don't think that I fertilize them often enough. I'm going to have to work on that. Where do you have yours located?

The Phalaenopsis is the one in bloom>> South window .. No sun required. It is on a window sill and loves it.

The Golden showers from Malaysia.........Is getting new growth on one don't know if it will bloom.......that is on the east window and gets sun in the am.
I only put miracle gro one time a month.
I do keep the saucers under the plants with water at all times.. Do you do that?

Carol, I'm going to plant my radishes earlier this year. This past year is the first time I haven't had good results and I think I waited too late or maybe it was too dry.

Bestofour,

Progess 9.............
They arent too bad.. But we didnt do them last couple years.. We both have arthritis in the hands and dont like pick and shelling them.. It agitates the fingers and they hurnt.

They grow easily......cool weather crop........
My radishes always fail, but I keep trying.

tapfoot

yes
I get them but they are usually brown inside and only last a short while..
DO you do them in your area?

They are cold weather loves.. Maybe they like loose soil and mine is tight with rocks.

I'm going to put out strawberries this year too. I've never planted them before. I've got to find a good place to order some plants from. I think I read one time that they shouldn't be planted close to tomatoes.

Look under companion planting and it will tell you which plants hate each other.

I do them also....Have to hurry to beat the robins to the profits..

I don't have a lick of sense. It's 20 degrees and has been cold for sveral days. I put on my shoes and gloves and went outside this morning to plant bulbs. You'd a thunk I'd know that the dirt would be frozen. touched

I don't like Gurney--as I recall I ordered a clump birch from them--only to have it be DEAD not dormant. We planted a free soft maple in its place---

do you make frozen strawberry jam? I used to have a recipe for that but lost it. I've lost all my recipes. I wonder if my daughters have taken them.

I have had strawberries before and they did good the first year and than get worse after. you have to move them around as they deplete the nutrients in the ground so fast. As they have runners and make new plants you are suppose to plant them over a row and get rid of older plants. That is what I read any how but DH wouldn't let me do it tapfoot Because of my job and working nights I don't have enough time to tend to them. Dodge is right the birds are faster than you and get the best berries. lol WE put a net over them once, but it got a chipmunk caught in it and I was so upset. DH got him out though and then we did away with the net and let them have the berries. haha

thanks Dodge for the the encouragement on winter seed sowing. My sister in law says she just plants them out in October in pots and then sinks the pots in the ground. I'll keep you posted on how mine does. :list:
