Yep and it couldn't happen to a better person....... Told HD today, boy will I drive the birds crazy this spring with my camera. He chuckled......... Watched me all summer chasing the flowers with the old camera. Now the new one chases birds..........and flowers.
I did see Juno's out playing today.. Got a few bad photos.
can't wait, so anxious I hope start winter seed sowing in a couple weeks. Thought I would just sow and set them outside and forget them. I read I got to keep them moist and take them in when it storms. I think I have committed to more than I can handle

I am strong when I am on your shoulders, you raised me up to be more than I can be.
You can always point and give us advice Tamara! I guess you can get your husband to do all the gardening while you sip lemonade and point! lol
Helping the world one seed at a time
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee
I got my Burpee seed cataloge to today. so many pretty things and so expensive. I didn't realize you could buy plants from them as well as seeds. But it is expensive. I don't have luck starting seeds inside. It was fun to look at though
I am strong when I am on your shoulders, you raised me up to be more than I can be.
Not to mention the postage...... That makes the seed and plant swap on here more worth while each year.. I started on here with zero knowledge........And zero seeds.
I have gotten a wealth of seeds , plants and knowledge from here..
Just ask for trades and see what happens. Good luck
Ditto me Dodge. I also started with zero seeds and zero knowledge. I can't believe the number of seeds I have now. And all the different varieties. And learning about each one is fantastic. Not to mention growing them.
Since I'm still waiting to find out where I'll be come spring I can't really make any plans so I probably won't have much of a veggie or annual garden this year even if I do end up with a yard. But I still keep swapping seeds and hoping for the best.
Oh you sound like me ,i am forever taking pics. The kids said why you always taking pic for i tell them love to take pic here some i took last nite with my new camera
My neighbors trees blew leaves onto my daffodils (thank goodness) so while I am curious I am not going to check them out---They can stay all safe & comfey under their "blanket".
Hopefully not too much will come up--because I can feel a freeze coming on--ya know---it just seems l ike it will happen (no-no forcast of such a thing happening)

Right Now we have an inch of snow an I just saw a bird I can chase....... With my camera......It has been a barrel of fun. Seems like your own camera is more fun.......Any birds LOZ//
lol some of my seeds say start 12 weeks before last frost date. i wouldn't have time to put my flowers to bed before I'd be planting seeds along with bulbs for the next year and then I wouldn't have any time to enjoy the holidays. Nope I think Mother Nature does just fine with the schedule. I wouldn't appreciate spring nearly as much if it weren't for winter.
I was telling DH that I'm gonna miss planting and digging in the spring...apparently he said he'd help......and if we have the extra money we'd just fill in spots with planters. He said he's also build me a little raised bed on legs for me to plant some veggies if I'm not healed up in time to garden.
~~Tam~ You can bury all your troubles by digging in the dirt.
I can see that for you--BUT I myself do not start too many seeds indoors--I eaitehr plant plants or just wait for the seeds to grow from when I plant them.
dad does h ave a green house though--I am sure I could 'borrow' a corner of it if I wished--perhpas I will try that this year--

You got that correct tk..... The feelings are greater in the spring, after a long winter.
OH TK ....my Orchid is in bloom again.. 2 Buds opened on the whitie..
The Phalaenopsis is the one in bloom>> South window .. No sun required. It is on a window sill and loves it.
The Golden showers from Malaysia.........Is getting new growth on one don't know if it will bloom.......that is on the east window and gets sun in the am. I only put miracle gro one time a month. I do keep the saucers under the plants with water at all times.. Do you do that?
I put out my trays of winter seed sowing out today. I hope my DH don't get a chance to laugh as he thinks I am just wasting dirt and time Please someone tell me I'm Not
I am strong when I am on your shoulders, you raised me up to be more than I can be.
Your not ......I have seen every one do it, except me.. However I do plant them directly in the beds in October an cover some with a plastic grape lid..(See thru) Did that last year and lots of them did grow?
Carol, I'm going to plant my radishes earlier this year. This past year is the first time I haven't had good results and I think I waited too late or maybe it was too dry.
Progess 9............. They arent too bad.. But we didnt do them last couple years.. We both have arthritis in the hands and dont like pick and shelling them.. It agitates the fingers and they hurnt.
They grow easily......cool weather crop........ My radishes always fail, but I keep trying.
I'm going to put out strawberries this year too. I've never planted them before. I've got to find a good place to order some plants from. I think I read one time that they shouldn't be planted close to tomatoes.
I don't have a lick of sense. It's 20 degrees and has been cold for sveral days. I put on my shoes and gloves and went outside this morning to plant bulbs. You'd a thunk I'd know that the dirt would be frozen.
I have had strawberries before and they did good the first year and than get worse after. you have to move them around as they deplete the nutrients in the ground so fast. As they have runners and make new plants you are suppose to plant them over a row and get rid of older plants. That is what I read any how but DH wouldn't let me do it Because of my job and working nights I don't have enough time to tend to them. Dodge is right the birds are faster than you and get the best berries. WE put a net over them once, but it got a chipmunk caught in it and I was so upset. DH got him out though and then we did away with the net and let them have the berries.
I am strong when I am on your shoulders, you raised me up to be more than I can be.
thanks Dodge for the the encouragement on winter seed sowing. My sister in law says she just plants them out in October in pots and then sinks the pots in the ground. I'll keep you posted on how mine does. :list:

Certainly is no harm in trying......Think I will wait another month or so..It is 0º here this am and is to be 2maro also.. Your quite welcome........
It is suppose to get - 0 here tonight. all week is suppose to be cold. At least no storms to have to run out and put them in the shed yet. That's what I read on a site to take them in a shed when it storms. probable just putting them in the ground in October less trouble

The way I operate, dont worry what others say,, just do your own thing. I remember the first attempt at picking seeds to swap.........I had no idea what were the seeds on anything.. Then I was afraid it was not correct.. So I had one lady try my seeds and tell me which ones germinates........
Then the 2nd year, I got braver and used 2 ladys.. I been on a farm all my life and never picked seeds till about 5 years ago.. The folks online taught me.
just wanted to say bye nice talking to you. Got to go excercise and do dishes and laundry before I go to work at 10. Working nights really messes up your cycle have a good evening. Leola

yea I was thinking that too, tamara---BUT Diane told me you just poke a hole in the dirt with a stick (one does not have to bend over that way)-& drop the seed in & cover it with the stick. I have that lovely purple daturna seed from her.
but I will likely not replace my annuals I put out each year.
going to take it easy this year too--i figure if I do it right this year--there will be other years, right???

I've started saving my water bottles (we use bought water when we go on trips) I'm planning on starting my seeds in these, problem is where do I put them to keep the dogs out of them
I try to take one day at a time -- but sometimes several days attack me at once. -Jennifer Unlimited- Yard Update -April 2012

I do this one all the time, also drop a seed and toss some dirt on top because I have alot of spots that are not diggable (is that a word?)

How about if you have a flower planter on the porch banister, put them in that .
Anything they cant reach.. Maybe up a tree? Sure hang it like a hanging basket..
It could be as late as mid May before I'll know if I have a place to plant. If I do and the ground is in good condition I may try buying some plants. It would be to late to do it by seeds for anything with a long growing season. Although I could do tomatoes and peppers from seeds and then bring them in if I have space that would be cool.
you all are getting spring fever early aren't you lol. Well I'm right there with you. I so want to stick my shovel in some dirt. But I just have to depend on my AV blooms to keep me going this year. Can't wait to see everyone's daffodils.
I have some do that ......They tell me if they are crowded they wont bloom.. However I arent sure........I get lots of nothings .. I got most of mine as give aways, not bought.
I moved the daffodils in the spring of 2005. each year the green comes up healthy but smallish (well they are the right height but they are thin like they would be if they were young) & then I only get the green. While I may have planted them too close together, I do not think that is the case.
I am having the same problem in the back with my surprise lillies..they too are coming up pretty & green, but then in the fall the "surprise" part (the flower) never shows.

The daffodills are on the eat side of my house--so they get morning sun.
the lillies are on the west side & so they get LOTS of hot afternoon sun--BUT they are protected some by the deck to the south and the hypernicum bush that is on the west side.

Maybe got all sterile plants..... all males or all females.
If people were like that, you an I would not be here.....
I had finally gotten around to replanting my bulbs a few weeks ago. Some of them looked like they may have rotted but I planted them anyway just to see. Couldn't hurt right? Then about a week after I planted them and put the compost over the garden area we got our first real freezing temps for the season. Guess I got them in just in time.
That page did....i really have the same problem with lots of mine. Just the daffys...... My tulips and lilys go bonkers.........Mostly in the sun. Your would think some of yours did bloom ir would .. Mine are just reruns from friends gardens.. But they arent really abundant.
no I am so sorry barb- -I was not actually saying you said that..
I was asking if you had read that (and it was nice of you too look it up for me, so thanks) and thought I would should read it. I am going with the thought that they are young bulbs--(they were small when I dug them up) and I guess I/we would benefit if we fed out bulbs. somewhere I have some bone meal--I guess this spring I will give that a try--- because I really do not want to dig themup just yey.
and it may just be the "clay soil" they are in--[perhpas I should try to address that in the spring as well.

I start all my bulbs with bone meal......thats my flower religion. 6 more weeks till sping........Yipeee.

I dont want to say something I arent sure of ........daffys are not my best shot.
But I like the pink and white ones. I started a new tulip bed this fall.. Last years rotted away.. Water was running right thu the beds......But lots of folks said theirs rotted too? So who you gonna believe??????????????????
All my bulbs are a couple inches out of the ground and I looked up our last frost date it's on March 24th. I can plant some new seeds soon!!! Today was beautiful, sunny, not to cold, but I had to be at work. Supposed to start raining again tomorrow.
We can have frost all the way up until the end of April/beginning of May.
I can't believe that when you started this topic Barb it was 59 days ago! Right after Christmas it seemed SOOOOOOOOo far away.....now it's getting nice and close!
True Loz...... Everyone was feeling down that day.........So I thought it was a cheer up. Actually I am suprise it is so close.. Our last frost is May 31.......Your warmer there...........
This place helps cheer up folks for sure ............... Like they say, no matter how bad you think you have it, there is always some one else worse.....
I know that day it cheered me up! I was so happy to see this topic and think spring!
And maybe or last frost is the end of may. I always get it confused. I'll have to ask my dad....I never pay attention and plant early every year.... Can never wait long enough then I'm running around with sheets covering things up.
Glad to help out. After christmas is a let down for everyone.. So much fun ..You go hog wild ......
However I shopped day after christmas sales for the first time, and found many nice buys for 2 sisters birthdays at the end of January, and some guests from texas was here and I found gifts for them.
We had an awesome Holiday.
Then I had HD birthday after christmas ......Haley dec 8.
It has been a wild whirl .......Now it is sunshine so pretty out and it snowed at first...21 º...........
It's 28 degrees here right now and windy as heck......We did have some snow first off this morning too, but it's really nice and sunny now. Just very cold with the temp combined with the winds.
