I like seeing her projects because she does do such fine work--and I appreciate the fact that, while i do not know how to knit, she can, and is so very good at it.

[Linked Image]Well golly geeeeeeeeeeeeee y'all! blush
You're really making me blush here...

Diane - I tried stacking the storage units in the store - they are very flimsy.
I do think that I could hold them together in the back with some strong plastic ties that Don has, but for now they are ok the way they are.

You all are taking that picture too seriously! why lol
I posted it, 'cause I was curious as to what kinds of things you might come up with for the shape of it - just for fun! thumbup I'll reveal the true purpose when I finish the project and it has been given to the recipient. grin

Here's what it looks like to knit with 4 double pointed needles - fun, huh?

[Linked Image]

And here is the end product of that knitting - still a mystery?

Yep, still a mystery. When I was at the library today I was cruising the craft aisle. A very poor selection. But I thumbed through one book on beaded knit and crochet. They had some cool stuff, there.

My vote is for a vase cover----I have a vase that's sort of shaped like that. Or a lamp shade cover?????

Lynne I have NO clue how you can knit these cool things up using 4 needles at one time....How old were you when you started and who taught you?

hmmmmmmmmmmm Diane - I'm not telling, but I really like your idea of a giraffe turtle neck - cute!

And a vase cover - hmmmmmmm - never thought of that - that could be cool!

A sleeve? hmmmmmmm

loz - I've really only been knitting since the fall of 2005. I had only done a little knitting as a teen - wasn't really into it and didn't want to learn from my mom. Now that I could use her help, she's in Florida! Almost all of what I learn about knitting is online - there are some terrific websites, and the short videos are great too!

Wow, you can do all that in just 3 years????? Knitting seems so complex to me, but my Nana in England is 85 and she still knits us sweaters, it takes her a long time now though because her hands are so stiff. I cherish them.

Maybe one day I'll give it a shot.....my dad can knit, he had to knit squares when he was a boy....to make blankets during WWII.

I think your work is awesome, Lynne. Specially because it is mostly self taught. The books and videos don't help me much. I'm left handed. I can do all of the crochet books and videos and turn it to my needs though. Isn't that odd?

I like Crocheting because one hook is way easier to me than two or four! lol

Tina is right, your work is awesome. I always sneak in here to see what you are making.

Can you crochet too Lynne?

I took a knitting class this last Saturday. We learned the basics and started on a project. Our first project is a hat. I am getting there. I will take some pics of my progress. I have never knitted so I was surprised when we started to make something already. The class is Saturday mornings for 2 hours and it goes for 4 weeks. This class is at a very neat little yarn shop. I want to take more of their classes once I get the basics down. They have a felted slipper class that I want to take. They are very nice. A friend of mine makes them. She referred me to this yarn shop and that is how I got signed up for this class. thumbup

Very cool Jessica. I hope your hat turns out nice!

The first blanket I ever crocheted was for my nephew when he was a baby. It was so crooked! lol Hey I was only 14 years old and it was my first one.

Sooooo, don't be hard on yourself in the beginning---I mean I know knitting and crocheting are different but I'm sure it will take a bit to really get the handle on things.

Yeah I'm sure it will but honestly it is not as hard as I thought it was going to be. But it really helps when you have someone there to help and show you what to do. I learned to crochet from websites and from asking Lynne questions. lol It is a lot easier to learn when you have someone showing you. For me it is anyways!

How's the knitting coming along, Jessica?
It's really easy once you get the hang of it!

Here are the 3 pairs of fingerless gloves that I knit last week for my friends from Alaska. I must say that their reaction was very UNDERwhelming, and I don't think they really cared much about them. But then again... the entire visit was all about them and what they were doing, so... that's the way it goes...

Thanks Tina. I don't think they were appreciated at all to tell you the truth, but then what can you expect from self-centered people? As you can tell, I'm a little burned by their visit, to say the least...

Has Jonni gotten back to the knitter yet?

Awwwwwwwwww - thanks to all of you! blush kissie

I really enjoy making things for others, you know? luv And I don't always expect the items to be appreciated, as I know "different strokes for different folks". BUT... I really really really forgot how self centered and selfish this friend of mine is, and apparently it has gotten worse as she's aged. I haven't seen her in 10 years, and thought we'd catch up on things, but she was totally only interested in what was going on with her and hers. rspb

Even to the point where she called me last night from the hotel at the airport to TELL me to look under the bed she had slept in, for her daughter's missing curling iron, and when I did find it there she TOLD me to send it to them. uhuhh

Well... what can one do? why Everything is a learning experience, right??? thumbup

And I DO know that this next pair of gloves I am making will be welcomed gladly! grin

I love the gloves Lynne!! They are awesome!! Once I get better you will have to send me the pattern! grin

The knitting is going good. The class that I took is for 4 weeks and it is once a week. So....I have been to 2 classes so far. I am really enjoying it. On Saturday we are going to learn how to finish a hat using double pointed needles. I have 2 hats right now to the point of the double pointed needles that will be finished once they show me how to do that. I am very excited! I will show pics of them! In March they are having a felted slippers class and I plan to take that. They have some on display in the store and they are very neat.

I'm so glad it's going well for you, Jessica!

I can't wait to see your hats. And to find out how you like using the double pointed needles - I really don't like to use them, but will if there is a project that I really want to make.

I also like those felted clogs, but haven't attempted that yet - can't wait to see those too!

I have learned so much in the last 2 weeks. Knitting always seemed like it would be so hard but it really isn't. Do you use circular needles Lynne?? That is what I start the hats with and I like them. I am now making a scarf with straight needles and I don't like them as well as the circular.

It's funny - I do NOT like the circulars or double pointed nearly as much as the straights! But I know lots of people who prefer those 2 to the straights. That's what makes horse racing, ya know???

(I do use both when I want to make a certain project that calls for them, but search for a pattern where I won't have to if I can find one)

To each his own.....everybody likes different things. Maybe I like the circulars better because that is what they started us on and I got comfortable with it. I like that when making a hat you just keep knitting....no back and forth. I don't mind the straights though!

Can't wait to see what you make next Lynne!!!

Sounds like you started out in a bit of a more advanced class, Jessica.
Most begining classes start out on straights and usually with a scarf - I know... boring!

My friend who teaches knitting at Micael's here was very surprised to hear that you are beginning with a hat and slippers and on circulars and double pointed, but if you are enjoying it and catching on, then I say all the more power to you!!! clap thumbup
