Nope, Diane - I haven't posted my Knit Willy here yet. I guess I felt that most saw him in Cindy's post, but I will show him here since you've asked. He was enjoying the New York fresh air, before getting shipped off to Washington in these pictures!
Well... so... I was looking at patterns in the knitting forum that I belong to, for the yarn that I used for the baby gifts - cotton - and came up with this oh-so-simple bootie pattern. I just finished knitting the second one. I think it looks better in solid colored yarns, but this matches the other items I knit up for the boy baby, and will go with them all.
Jonni has finished a couple hats and a single fingerless glove thingy. It is a cuff that goes to a triangle up the back of her hand and has a loop for her middle finger. So not exactly fingerless. She has given them all away to friends. She is currently working on a sweater. But hopefully she is really working on homework. I might have to take the looms and yarns away. She's a maniac!

Tina - what color yarns is Jonni leaning towards? Does she still wear a lot of black clothes? I think it's great that she's enjoying her looms so much, but of course not at the cost of her homework! I so wish we could see some of her creative work!!!

awwwwwwwwwwwwwww They are sooooooo sweet,,, makes me miss holding little babies,,

It's really easy, Sheri! If you need help I can walk you through it. The decreasing is simply knitting 2 stitches together at the same time. Increasing is a bit trickier, but still really easy.
There are 3 different sizes you can make - I originally made the medium size, but they looked to big to me for a newborn, so I ripped the one out and then made the small size. I know the baby could have grown into them, but I decided to do the small anyway...
I like this pattern because it's knit on 2 needles - I prefer them to circular or double pointed patterns!
Jonni is actually picking out quite colorful yarns. The sweater thing she is designing is a fairly bright green fun fur yarn. Kelly green Lion brand fun fur to be exact. I went to look.

Maybe she'll have a nice sweater to wear for St. Patrick's day this year - I always like to wear green then, even though there's not a speck of Irish in my heritage.
Even the Irish don't celebrate St P day the way we do. But they are learning to. It is all fun.
unless they are irish decent in savannah ga, one of the top 3 st. pat's parties in the us. ny and boston have the other two sorry lynne don't want to hijack your topic, just had to say that.

I am dying to see that ........I married and Irishman.......
This reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally has become an addiction!
I picked up 2 plastic storage chests for my yarn stash, to get them off the floor and out of the numerous plastic bags they've been in for months on end. I thought this would hold it all til I decide what kind of wall unit to put in the craft room that I hope Don helps me with soon.
But.............. the 6 drawers are jam PACKED to the brim, and I still have more yarn to put away. Plus I have 3 large baskets with lids that are stuffed with yarn!!!
I need YARN HOARDERS ANONYMOUS!!!
In my defense, at least 1/2 of this yarn was given to me for free!
I like seeing her projects because she does do such fine work--and I appreciate the fact that, while i do not know how to knit, she can, and is so very good at it.

Well golly geeeeeeeeeeeeee y'all! You're really making me blush here...
Diane - I tried stacking the storage units in the store - they are very flimsy. I do think that I could hold them together in the back with some strong plastic ties that Don has, but for now they are ok the way they are.
You all are taking that picture too seriously! I posted it, 'cause I was curious as to what kinds of things you might come up with for the shape of it - just for fun! I'll reveal the true purpose when I finish the project and it has been given to the recipient.
Yep, still a mystery. When I was at the library today I was cruising the craft aisle. A very poor selection. But I thumbed through one book on beaded knit and crochet. They had some cool stuff, there.

hmmmmmmmmmmm Diane - I'm not telling, but I really like your idea of a giraffe turtle neck - cute!
And a vase cover - hmmmmmmm - never thought of that - that could be cool!
A sleeve? hmmmmmmm
loz - I've really only been knitting since the fall of 2005. I had only done a little knitting as a teen - wasn't really into it and didn't want to learn from my mom. Now that I could use her help, she's in Florida! Almost all of what I learn about knitting is online - there are some terrific websites, and the short videos are great too!
Wow, you can do all that in just 3 years????? Knitting seems so complex to me, but my Nana in England is 85 and she still knits us sweaters, it takes her a long time now though because her hands are so stiff. I cherish them.
Maybe one day I'll give it a shot.....my dad can knit, he had to knit squares when he was a boy....to make blankets during WWII.
I think your work is awesome, Lynne. Specially because it is mostly self taught. The books and videos don't help me much. I'm left handed. I can do all of the crochet books and videos and turn it to my needs though. Isn't that odd?

WOWWWWWWW!!! After seeing those needles and hand made by you special,, You can be sure Emmy will wear this with Pride and Dignity!!

I took a knitting class this last Saturday. We learned the basics and started on a project. Our first project is a hat. I am getting there. I will take some pics of my progress. I have never knitted so I was surprised when we started to make something already. The class is Saturday mornings for 2 hours and it goes for 4 weeks. This class is at a very neat little yarn shop. I want to take more of their classes once I get the basics down. They have a felted slipper class that I want to take. They are very nice. A friend of mine makes them. She referred me to this yarn shop and that is how I got signed up for this class.
Very cool Jessica. I hope your hat turns out nice!
The first blanket I ever crocheted was for my nephew when he was a baby. It was so crooked! Hey I was only 14 years old and it was my first one.
Sooooo, don't be hard on yourself in the beginning---I mean I know knitting and crocheting are different but I'm sure it will take a bit to really get the handle on things.
Yeah I'm sure it will but honestly it is not as hard as I thought it was going to be. But it really helps when you have someone there to help and show you what to do. I learned to crochet from websites and from asking Lynne questions. It is a lot easier to learn when you have someone showing you. For me it is anyways!
How's the knitting coming along, Jessica? It's really easy once you get the hang of it!
Here are the 3 pairs of fingerless gloves that I knit last week for my friends from Alaska. I must say that their reaction was very UNDERwhelming, and I don't think they really cared much about them. But then again... the entire visit was all about them and what they were doing, so... that's the way it goes...
Thanks Tina. I don't think they were appreciated at all to tell you the truth, but then what can you expect from self-centered people? As you can tell, I'm a little burned by their visit, to say the least...
I really enjoy making things for others, you know? And I don't always expect the items to be appreciated, as I know "different strokes for different folks". BUT... I really really really forgot how self centered and selfish this friend of mine is, and apparently it has gotten worse as she's aged. I haven't seen her in 10 years, and thought we'd catch up on things, but she was totally only interested in what was going on with her and hers.
Even to the point where she called me last night from the hotel at the airport to TELL me to look under the bed she had slept in, for her daughter's missing curling iron, and when I did find it there she TOLD me to send it to them.
Well... what can one do? Everything is a learning experience, right???
And I DO know that this next pair of gloves I am making will be welcomed gladly!
I love the gloves Lynne!! They are awesome!! Once I get better you will have to send me the pattern!
The knitting is going good. The class that I took is for 4 weeks and it is once a week. So....I have been to 2 classes so far. I am really enjoying it. On Saturday we are going to learn how to finish a hat using double pointed needles. I have 2 hats right now to the point of the double pointed needles that will be finished once they show me how to do that. I am very excited! I will show pics of them! In March they are having a felted slippers class and I plan to take that. They have some on display in the store and they are very neat.
I can't wait to see your hats. And to find out how you like using the double pointed needles - I really don't like to use them, but will if there is a project that I really want to make.
I also like those felted clogs, but haven't attempted that yet - can't wait to see those too!
I have learned so much in the last 2 weeks. Knitting always seemed like it would be so hard but it really isn't. Do you use circular needles Lynne?? That is what I start the hats with and I like them. I am now making a scarf with straight needles and I don't like them as well as the circular.
It's funny - I do NOT like the circulars or double pointed nearly as much as the straights! But I know lots of people who prefer those 2 to the straights. That's what makes horse racing, ya know???
(I do use both when I want to make a certain project that calls for them, but search for a pattern where I won't have to if I can find one)
To each his own.....everybody likes different things. Maybe I like the circulars better because that is what they started us on and I got comfortable with it. I like that when making a hat you just keep knitting....no back and forth. I don't mind the straights though!
Sounds like you started out in a bit of a more advanced class, Jessica. Most begining classes start out on straights and usually with a scarf - I know... boring!
My friend who teaches knitting at Micael's here was very surprised to hear that you are beginning with a hat and slippers and on circulars and double pointed, but if you are enjoying it and catching on, then I say all the more power to you!!!
I agree with everyone--lynne---you do beautiful work and you can be proud--such fine & hard work for you to go unappreciated---shame on them !!!
I second that emotion! Those gloves are awesome!
And to have someone knit a pair especially for me...I would be so flattered!
Shame on them!
Triple shame on them I wear the scarf you made me almost everyday,, Even on not so cold days but chilly days when the wind is blowing while Emmy is struttin' her stuff in the sweater you made her! People like that only appreciate themselves,, while others around them shake their heads in disgust. I don't knit as you know but I appreciate every loop every click of the needles and ache in your hands it took to make my scarf and sweater for Emmy!
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
I too cannot wait to see what you knit next, Lynne--
I do not know how to knit eitehr--but I am so in awe of each thing you show us.
the girls crochet I think it is,(?) with yarn. I have a heavy afgan for the couch that they both had a hand in--I love it--it is so toasty warm !!! and I appreciate it all the more because they made it for me.
I guess I should try to learn.

They say that it is the beginner class Lynne but I don't really know. The lady teaching it said that they don't start with a scarf because it is long and tedious and that makes people give up fast because they think that all knitting is that way.
Has anyone seen the new "trend' in scarves this year? I heard the scarves are knited a little longer then the ends are joined to form a complete circle.
Has anyone else heard,or seen,that?

How weird that you should mention that. I just got home from The Gap Outlet where I had bought one like that. I got it for Mommy. I had gotten myself one a couple weeks ago and love it so I got her one, too. The original price on them was $29.50. Since I got them at the outlet store I picked them up for $0.99.

I'll post pics of it later on. I'm making Brennan a Thomas Edison costume for school right now. I'll be taking pictures of that and posting them later on, too.

Thought you might like to see what I've been working on in between all my other projects that are a bit easier to finish in shorter time periods. I'm not sure I like the color combos, and not sure what I'll do with it when it's finished - might donate it to a shelter or nursing home.
It's called a Log Cabin Blanket, and is knit in 18 rows on each side, around and around and around...
Lynne...I dreamed last night you were trying to teach me how to knit...and the knitting needles kept flipping out of my hands.
Cindy You have company..........dream or not.. I used to knit , now when I try it gets real tight and I can't do it .. Crazy huh???????? There are lots of sites on here, how to knit ..
