My dad was in the Army and sometimes we lived on base. At Fort Benning the hanger was close to the pool we went too and sometimes when they took off grass would fly into the pool. We hated those "birds".

I used to ride on the back of one o' those birds when I was in the Army at Ft. Hood, TX. They were really nice!

We call them Whirrley Birds. They have to go over our house to the local airport, about 8 mile away. I live between 2 airports. We birdwatch in 2 ways. ha ha ha

No, I'm assuming these flew up from Oceana Naval Airbase at Virginia Beach. That's a 5 1/2 or 6 hour drive from here.

We get military flights through here rather frequently. Usually fighter planes though. Floyd County, where I live, is at a high elevation and it's sparsely populated. It also sits right on the upper edge of the Blue Ridge plateau. All this makes it attractive for training flights.

Horray bestofour,

You did well. Did you have to zoom at all on that one?

Good job, need more.

I've been so busy lately, I haven't taken the time for any bird pictures, but here's one of a female Downy Woodpecker from just now.

Yes, a real dove. They have a nest in one of my camellia bushes.
