Hi! I'm Ziggy from Northeast Texas. I am planting a flower garden this year, and I do not have a green thumb. I bought some morning glories to put by the backyard fence, but my husband says it is not a good idea. He says that vines attract snakes. Has anyone else had this problem?
No, I live in southern California semi-desert. We have our fair share of snakes but they are not any more attracted to the viny plants than to any other. They will come to your yard in search of water or the other critters coming for water. I'm not sure that any plant actually attracts snakes. Most snakes are welcome here. They do a lot of critter control. Welcome to Garden Helpers. It is nice to meet new people. We have several Texan members.

I don't think the vine actually attracts snakes but if you have a lot of snakes in your yard they may hang out under it just like any other vine. I don't like morning glories because here in NC once you've planted them they come back forever no matter what you do. How come you don't like snakes? I like having a few around.
Do you mind telling me in what city you live? I'm nosey about locations.
I live near Gladewater. I don't mind snakes. But my husband does. He thinks that if they are in the vine, then they will want to come near the back door. Sounds a little paranoid to me. But I know some people have a real fear of snakes. I've only seen 1 snake here in the last five years. It was non-poisonous, about 6 inches long. I didn't kill him. He looked harmless. Spiders and scorpions!! That's my fear.
My neighbors are afraid of snakes and have cut down all their trees and shrubs and have a mud hole for a yard. They killed what I called my black snake one time - but it was in their yard. Living in Texas you guys probably do have some mean snakes - really can't blame your husband for wanting to be careful. We lived in OK for a while and I'm afraid of tarantulas and scorpions too.
Hi Ziggy,, I live in Grandprairie TX I've had morning glories every year and Moon flower vine which is even heavier and thicker than MG And guess what! No snakes! I understand your husbands fear ,, but I really don't believe it's going to bing snakes in at all.

I live in southern Texas. I have morning glories, and snakes.......but I don't believe I've ever seen a snake by that vine. We saw a copperhead last weekend, but it was in the weeds.
