Joclyn planted the seeds Sunday in peat pots and good thing I did it takes 6 weeks for them to start growing?Did not know it took them that long and besides that its rainy more we may get before the rain is over with sometime late tomorrow 2-4 inches they would of surely drown in that much water?Again many thanks gardening buddy! Rita

i'm glad you got them started inside - yes, i think all that rain would not have been good for them!!

just one comment about them, they will probably not bloom this year. they usually bloom during the second (and subsequent) year of growth.

i figured you didn't know that, so i wanted to make sure you did so you wouldn't be disappointed when no flowers showed up! from next year on, you'll always have flowers on them...they will self-seed a little, too, so, the clump will grow larger every few years and then you can split them out to spread out around all your beds.

black-eyed susan does the same thing - grows the first year and blooms in the second. it's not a perennial though. it's called bi-ennial because it only grows for two years (it dies after it blooms). the bes readily reseeds itself, so, even though it dies off, you get new plants from the seeds that fall onto the ground after the blooms die.

I didn't know cone flowers did not bloom the first year either. I was given some seed late last summer and simply put them under my pine straw mulch. I have one that has come up. I've been looking for it to bloom. Oh well, guess I'll have to wait till next year. bummer!
