You two are tooooooooo funny! (hmmm - I seem to be repeating that a bit lately!)
No worries - he won't be going to the Statue of Liberty - at least not during his visit with me. He will, however, be taking a bit of a trip tomorrow, and hopefully will have some pictures to post tomorrow night.
Yes TW knows where he is going, and is almost too excited, to get to sleep. I hope he does catch some ZZZZZZZs because he is leaving early and it will be a long day.
He is safely tucked away into some very soft yarn and will hopefully be counting sheep soon!
I hope, that after sleeping in the yarn bins, TW has some good yarns to tell us about his time in NY.
"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, it's inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." by Winston Churchill
OK!!! TW is back in the house! He had a VERRRRRRRY long day - leaving at 8:45a.m., and returning home at 9p.m.!!!
Can you guess where he started out this morning? gnomes/TWontrain4-21-08.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/>
Amy and her girlfriend, Heather, took TW into NYC yesterday! I thought they'd take some great pictures of him there, but I guess being 17 and 18, they were too busy with their own agendas. They took a few on the train, by the subway entrance, and by "some" statue! KIDS!
Here they are by the subway entrance - TW wants me to tell you that was SOME experience - it's very busy down there below the streets of NYC - trains whizzing by quickly, people rushing to catch them, and even musicians playing for the crowds in hopes of collecting a bit of money!
They have NOOOOOOOO idea what statue this is! gnomes/TWandstatue4-21-08.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/>
And here is the metrocard that they bought to ride the subway all around NYC. gnomes/TWandmetrocard4-21-08.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/>
TW and I are getting ready to hit a few places today. It's another bright and sunny day - maybe we'll get to a few plant nurseries??? We'll let you know when we return later.
Wellllllll we are back from another lonnnnnng day out! It wasn't so successful as far as getting what we wanted to buy, but TW got to see some of the area here.
First off... we were barely down the main road off my street when TW spotted our town pool. He made me slam on the brakes so he could go take a look see! Can you see him perched way up on the sign above the "O" in the word town? gnomes/TWandSpookRockpool4-22-08.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/>
He REALLY wanted to go for a swim despite the numerous times I told him that the pool does not open until Memorial Day weekend! SHEEEEESH - couldn't he see that there wasn't another car in the parking lot?!? gnomes/TWandSpookRockpool24-22-08.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/>
He also asked me to take a picture of the thruway down below while we were stopped at a red light, waiting to get on the thruway. And he also wanted to show how close the mountains are to where we live.
I sure do miss having him here.....just think of all the places he's been---and all the people that have held him. I secretly think he likes to be held.
Actually... the name of the road is Spook Rock Road, and a little bit further down the road is the real "Spook Rock". It dates back to when the Native Indians lived in this area - there are still tribes here, but not in this exact location. I will try to take a picture of the rock when Don is driving me to the dr. tomorrow - it's at an extremely busy intersection, so I am not able to get out of the car and get a shot of it.
I found 2 legends about Spook Rock online - I'm sure there are many others...
Quote
legend from a female friend about a young Dutch woman who habitually met her Indian lover at Spook Rock in Rockland County. Outraged by this mixed-race courtship, Dutch settlers climbed up to the rock by moonlight and murdered the young lovers. The legend says that moonlight still casts the shadows of the murdered lovers, and people can hear their screams in the woods along Spook Rock Road.
Quote
Spook Rock is the largest of the cluster of rocks located on Spook Rock Road and Highview Avenue in Tallman. According to the legend, there once was a Dutch farmer who happened to be frugal. He had traded with the Lenape Indian tribe. The Lenape tribe felt offended when they had been conned by the farmer. To get even with the farmer, the Lenape Indians kidnapped the farmer's daughter. She was placed atop the sacrificial rock they had used for worship. The daughter of the farmer was put to death. Almost immediately after the sacrifice, the girl's spirit arose and terrified the Chieftain and his followers.
There are those who say that even today the ghost of the girl appears on the anniversary of her death.
OOOOOOOOOOOPS!!! I didn't see that you all were having this conversation while I was researching about Spook Rock!
Actually... there WAS a card for TW from Puddin' when we returned home today!
It was a very beautiful card on the outside - perfect for Earth Day! gnomes/TWcardfromPuddin4-22-08.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/>
BUT... my-oh-my when we read the inside!!! gnomes/TWcard24-22-08.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/>
That sweet looking Puddin' surely has a temper when she is upset! Poor TW didn't know what to do with himself so he layed down for a nap! Though from the looks of it, I'm not sure he's getting any sleep - I think he's still in shock!!!
TW here! Boy was I thrown for a loop with that card from Puddin'! I'm so sorry darlin' - I meant to let you down easy...it's just that I'm a Roamin' gnome and I need my freedom, you know???
So, moving right along here... This morning, after Lynne wouldn't let me go swimming - even though it was a really nice day for it - we went on the New York State Thruway allllllll across the county to the end - that's right - THE END - the Hudson River! She wanted to show me the river and the TappanZee bridge that she usually uses to get to her parents' house and other assorted places. Unfortunately, the water made the bridge look a bit hazy in the pictures but you can still get the idea.
After we stopped at this park, we made our way back across the county. The first stop was at the huge mall that Lynne is always talking about here on the forums - I wanted some cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory, but Lynne wouldn't spring for it at over $7 a slice!!!
We then went around to the other side of the mall to Home Depot, so Lynne could look at the plants and flowers. gnomes/TWandHomeDepot4-22-08.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/>
I got my very first ride in a shopping cart - it was fun!
There weren't any good things to buy, as it's still early in the season here, so off we went to our next destination. On the way, we saw this really cool old car - but the driver was driving on the WRONG SIDE!!! Can you barely make out his head on the right side? gnomes/oldwhitecar4-22-08.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/>
