Skitter (our cat) has a sore on her 'ankle', right where the foot and leg meet.

It's about the circumference of a pea.

Other than limping and slow walking, she doesn't seem to be in dire pain - isn't crying, unless we touch her foot, of course.

Anybody had experience with this?

my first thought: does she go outside? if so, it could be a tick - they could look like a sore when they're engorged and the whole general area would be sore, too.

i'd take a really good look again - although some ticks are really small, they can grow in size immensely when they're eating/drinking.

it could be a simple bruise - maybe she fell off something or got stuck in a bramble/rose bush or something.

is the area around the spot reddish or swollen? if either, i'd think about getting her to the vet. if she had an open sore that's scabbed over, she could have infection going.

It wasn't swollen - in fact, the cat seems comfortable with it now. Not limping as much. Just the same, I made her stay inside yesterday.

Yes, she goes out - won't have it any other way - when made to stay inside, she sits and the window and roars!

Jeff thinks it's an insect bite - I thought maybe a burn - maybe the tip of somebody's cigarette got caught in her fur as she was romping through the grass.

We had some antibiotic from last August when she got a case of Triginoma (spelling, I know). The vet had her take a couple doses from the bottle then put her on something else - geesh! He did say it was a general antibiotic and could be used again at some time.

I gave her that twice yesterday - and it seems to have helped out.

Skitter's licking the wound herself, so I guess she's healing it.

We're watching - if it looks worse, we'll take her down to the doc's, but we just don't want our bank account robbed and the cat kept in overnight if it's something we can get her through ourselves.

We usually don't get out of the vet's office with a bill that's under 400 bones - just lucky we have some money saved.

Also, we think of the cat herself - she doesn't like being put through all the hoopla - in a cage at the vet's overnight - geesh! Last time, they kept her for the trig, but I think she could have just as well been sent home for the night -the medication would have worked just as well at home.

She wasn't happy with that - when the vet's assistant carried her to me, the cat up and socked me in the face - that's how she felt about it!

It was my fault, she figured - ha ha! Daddy's her favourite person - I'm just the old witch that makes her take her medicines and stuff.

Hoping Skiter feels better soon. Our cats are always full of bumps, cuts and bruises. Mind you they are barn cats, so it's the norm.

Vets are quite cheap here, I can't believe you are charged so much. They also have 'free Vet clinics' once a month. You just have to bring in proof of your income, but that will soon be gone. People are getting other people to bring in their pets and pretend that they belong to the lower income person.

I poured some 3% peroxide on it - and I picked up some 99% aloe vera, which is supposed to be good - it isn't toxic either.

I used to use that on my own skin; don't know why I stopped. Now I can start using it around my scalpline again.

Skitter was mad when I came home and put it on her - she hates being fussed with in any way.

She's now sitting on her grocery box, glaring at me.

I got some aloe vera (99%) and dabbed that on.

It seems to be healing nicely.

Last night I wanted to sneak up on her while she was sleeping and dab some more aloe vera on - unfortunately, she had both legs tucked under her paws - smart cat!
