Carol I started to let mine dry up completely on the stem,, just today I opened one up (<-it was brown and very dry),, inside was 4 seeds ,, dark , semi flat, kinda cone shaped, definitely seeds thumbup ,, on the same plant I had missed collecting and seeds were on the ground, so YEP self seeds,, thumbup I have dead headed and saved those , <-I've opened a few of them BUT the seeds are not as developed as the seeds that I open that were still on the stem,. SOOOOOOO What I'm going to do is wait on the stem heads to dry and turn brown then I'll collect! grin

thanks--
the lilac spoon I found at the nursery over by valarie's house.

---the other was at a nursery in a larger neighboring town--it is between my home & hers---they also had big containers of these for a lot more of money--i decided that i could wait for mine to grow---

The first bloom on the spoon osteospermum that you sent to me!!!

It definitely looks like it reverted back to one of the parents, Carol.
I'm sorry you don't have the spoon shape any more, but I still think it's a very pretty plant.

I was at my DD's house today and she was saying how she planted the sppon osteospermum I bought her in with her wild flowers and now she could not find it.--so I found it for her amd guess what?/ it looked exactly like mine did when I took the last picture.--NO spoon petals to be found.---I do not think heres ever bloomed witha spoon flower---this is frustrating for sure.

That is so odd, Carol!!! I will keep close tabs on the one Diane sent me - so far I've only had the 1 bloom that is still there, but there are more buds to open soon.

Very odd indeed For both yours and Your daughters to have done that, I hope you saved the seeds from the spoon flower that was there!

Lynne The plant I divided with you still blooms the Purple spoon*I have that one in all shade,, that is one of the first ones I planted. The rest of all I had planted after that are no longer blooming as they were planted in 1/2 shade,, Big mistake probably egad ,, it just too hot here right now notme

Diane - mine gets morning to mid-day sun and then afternoon shade - the plant looks very healthy (knock on wood!) but the flowers take a long time to open.

had to bring this back to the front,, because mine are coming back after a hot dry summer,,,, the purple silver and pink eye have died all the way no trace of them left,, but the large white spoon osteospernum has recovered and growing and spreading out,, I had read that in cooler weather it will rebloom No signs of bud yet but definitely coming back*refer to 1st post in thread*

[Linked Image]

as well as the purple spoon
[Linked Image]

the white soprano never died back all the way and is on the recovery as well,, I Hope(*keeping fingers crossed*) that I will have blooms ~ at least a few of them before too long,,
