Oh, I just love 'Bonnet' and 'Frilly' Columbines...I have a few they are so pretty.

4 feet? Wow and I thought mine was tall for reaching 2 feet. They must have large blooms then?

Gorgeous!!

How much sun do they get? I would love to have some of those in my yard but short of putting them in the middle of my backyard, the only spots I have left are partly to totally shady.

Below are some pictures of the new plants I found today. I went to the greatest garden center ever!!!--Not only were the flowers fantastic,-- the owners, and their staff were wonderful. Over-all a fantastic experience.

Lynne--I so think you would love this place. They even had water plants.

below is a Golden Goblin--Gaillardia--Can you believe I bought it over the fanfare or the burgandy?? well I did!!!
[Linked Image]
below is my Eryngium--Sea Holly--the Sapphire Blue--well I hope it is anyway--we shall see when it blooms

[Linked Image]

and here is my maracas---(Brazilian Fireworks) I just liked the looks of this plants leaves--and I needed one to go in a small pot that i will place on my front steps

[Linked Image]

I so hope it all comes out looking nice---All of this should get planted on saturday.

OMG Cindy - those have to be the most gorgeous flowers on the planet!!!
What's the name of that rhody???????

Carol - those plants look so nice and healthy! I do like the looks of that Goblin - haven't seen an all yellow one around here. Hmmmmmm - maybe I'll need to go back to that perennial nursery tomorrow - haven't been there in 2 weeks!

Can't wait to see the blue of the sea holly - I hope it is a true blue for you. I am pretty disappointed in my blue-eyed grass - it's flowering very nicely now, but the flowers are BRIGHT PURPLE!!!!!!! Not what I was looking for at all - hmmmmm!

sweet potato plant sounds familiar. i'm sure that is what it is. thanks. thumbup
when I first spotted the J.Cherry growing down one of our trails. I dug one up and brought it up to the house to transplant. I didn't know what it was, just thught it was pretty. a neighbor was over and grabbed a handful of what he called 'tomato peppers', and popped them into his mouth. my husband said his laborers at work eats them too when they see 'em. I just stood there dumbfounded. why I figured if we had a native edible 'tomato pepper' growing I'd have heard of them before. looked it up, and yep they are poisonious. well, 'considered' poisonious...you have to eat a 5 gal bucket of them in one sitting to even throw up. but why eat it at all??

teach The Columbines in The Fairy Garden get full sun from about 10 AM until 4-5 PM but we have many of them in Hummingbird House that don't grow as tall because they are in light shade all day.

So very glad to hear that your columbines get so much sun---I wanted to put some in my new bed--but it gets full sun all afternoon--so I was hesitant.--Now I think I will give it a 'go' thanks---

That is interesting, Bill - I can see that they are in the same family, but here they are refered to as different plants. Nonetheless... it is gorgeous!

Here are some new plants I bought yesterday at Lowes.
I actually found a new blue plant - Blue Daze - evolvulus nuttallianus -
it's a small trailing one, so I put it in a hanging pot.
[Linked Image]

And some lantana
[Linked Image]

And here is my BLUE-eyed grass in full bloom that is not BLUE, but PURPLE!!!

Here's a lily that I bought in a box in a close-out store last year - the color is a bit better than last year when it was more of a murky brown - YECH! It's not quite as red as it looks in the picture but I couldn't get the real color.

It's the first lily to bloom here and I think it's very early for them here this year.
[Linked Image]

Some columbine - I bought it right after the incident at Columbine - I had to do SOMETHING to remember all those who were lost on that tragic day.

Thanks Dodge. Yes they are daylilies, and really not supposed to be blooming so early here. Though I do think a lot of flowers are blooming ahead of schedule this year.

The copper one bloomed bright red the first year, then I planted pink ones near it and now it blooms pink as well but a darker shade than the rest. I'm thinking of moving a piece of it to see if it's just a cross-pollination thing happening.

Here's the poor phlox being taken over by the goutweed...not being able to weed this spring is gonna make for more hard work this fall. I'm gonna have to dig it all up to seperate it
flowers%202008/100_0554.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/>

and here's a close up for Diane of the bleeding hearts
