On the front of our local primary school in Oxford, England is a wisteria that has been there for at least 20 years and never flowered. 4 years ago I started pruning in summer and autumn and sure enough, in 2006 it had a good display of
flowers. In 2007 a vast array of buds appeared but just when they were about to blossom they all dropped off. The same has happened again this year. The roots are under tarmac and paving and it never gets any feed. There has been no frost. It should have been lovely, and wisteria with loads of
flowers are common in Oxford – what’s wrong with ours?
