so, this little guy (he isn't more than 6 inches tall) has bloomed at the end of my walkway. i know i tried to plant some seed there before, and i had a bag of birdseed spill (you can still see it there blush it's too heavy for me to pick up, still full) so i have no clue who/what he is. he has 3 buddies that have poked their heads up, but he took the best picture. his bloom has lasted more than 2 weeks.

i know what you mean. it isn't very big, slightly larger and a silver dollar (for those old enough to remember those) and since i have dandelions not far from it, i KNOW it isn't that! but it is just too cute to pull up and call a weed.

i don't think so because it isn't drying up into a sunflower type seed head.

I have some sunflowers - they grew for a few years up against the curb - I thought they were tree saplings and kept hawking them out.

Last year I let them grow . . . I was delighted with sprays of lovely yellow flowers.

I checked out the pic link. Isn't that just a fancy smancy little flower...."No Common Name." haha

P. S. I use to have all kinds of 'fun' things come up under a bird feeder. grin

My giant 'mystery plant' that turned out to be a Common Evening Primrose with pretty little yellow flowers all over it use to be considered a 'weed' by my neighbor. He said he would weedwhack them all the time. He never left them alone long enough to see them bloom. Fortunately, this year that 'weed' started coming up just barely on my side of the ditch so he didn't mess with it. My curiousity kept me from mowing it down. I'm glad I did that. It's so pretty. It's HUGE now and just busting all out with the prettiest little yellow flowers.
