Morning all,
Coffee is on and have warm banana muffins .
Up early today to be ready for phone man who is supposed to be here anytime from 8 to noon- probably get here around 4 ....but we need the wires fixed and Joe doesn't want to mess with it.
Got to go shopping today at Sam's, hate to go on Sat but have to go when I can I guess..Sean and family are coming tomorrow too- he wants to borrow our pickup and he said he would put up screen/storm door for me- Yay!
My sis is being a pain again- Mom wants to go spend time with her and the boys and would be perfect today but she won't do it today .. has to be tomorrow... won't help me out even a little bit .... guess she will get hers eventually.
Well off to get Mom's breakfast and mine-- got laundry to finish up and ironing to do before day gets hot... supposed to be in the 80's today...
Have a good day all!

It is hot and humid here today, so I'm just hanging out in the a/c, puttering about.

I like it when you are puttering nearby, Merme.
We have some family coming to visit with John. Then Jonni and I are heading out to do some banking then shopping then gas up my van. Gas is up to $4.50 something. The other day I filled my tank at one station on the way to the hospital for $4.099. On the way home from the hospital an hour or so later it was up 10 cents. the next day up another 10. A never ending climb. But I have no other options right now.

I'm glad John is having some company. You and Jonni seem to have a busy time planned!

It's more comfortable in here now that the glare of the sun has moved off my front porch and sliders.

Maxi's birds are singing their hearts out today; they are so happy!

I may have a nap in a bit while the house is so quiet.

The Macy's Father's Day ad is making it very hard for my poor ol' PC to function. It is terribly reluctant to refresh or turn pages, so I'm going to shut 'er down for a bit and hopefully she'll be more tolerant of the animation when I come back!

Very hot here today. mid 90's I'm sure. no real point in watching the weather anymore. everyday is the same, and no more than a 20% chance of rain till well into next week. goofy me has been in and out today grilling! guess I just can't get enough of that heat - gotta stand around some fire. ha ha. got brisket going, and my daughter is mixing up some cheese mixture to put in some sweet gypsy peppers from the garden. I have 4 tomatos I picked the other day and will make a wee bit of salsa. should be a nice supper tonight.

low humidity and a little wind makes all the difference. it's nice here now that the sun is going down. waiting on merme and maxi to show up with some tortillas to go with this brisket. brisket turned out wonderful. stuffed peppers were excellent. the salsa is too dang hot to eat! I couldn't figure out why these new peppers I'm growing are called big jim's. they dont' get big at all, then they turn red. added three of them red suckers to the salsa........WHOOOOO----MAMMA! everyone bring some chips and come on over!

I can't be eatin' no chocolate chip/oatmeal anything this morning, Tam. My mouth is still on fire from Cricket's salsa! Man alive, those Big Jim peppers are mighty hot!

I'm going to pour another cup of coffee to extinguish the flame inside me.

But thanks for the offer....they sure smell good!

Here in a bit I'll be making our omelettes.

Hi Jiffy if you are still here!

I'm off for a bit because Maxi wants to play on the PC. He likes to go to a site that teaches you how to draw your favorite Anime cartoon characters.

Morning all,
Was up early but had to get Mom ready to go to sis's, and then had to finish up my bills and stuff I almost forgot about doing...not a good thing to do.
but it is all straight now and my morning and early afternoon is free now-- do have to clean up my house- mop the kitchen and vacuum again- summer is nice but boys do track in a lot of mess... want to get some banana bread made too-
Somebody on the street is mowing... suprised cause it rained for a little bit this morning-sun is out now though- guess it didn't get to wet to mow or they don't care...
Well off to finish the kitchen stuff and get busy with the rest-- gotta get it done ....
Have a good day all!

He is a good artist, Jiffy, and spends much time each day working on it. He does have hopes of working in the field of animation or video gaming in some capacity or other. Disney offers a 2 week animation course down in FL he hopes to attend during a summer in high school and I think that'd be great if he could do it! He has a very developed "eye" for color and proportion that I do not have and I've often relied on his judgement for creative projects I do.

I would have steered him toward a career in music, but his heart is in art.

Nana ~ I see you are as busy as always... rain or shine, heat or freezing!

merme, there are about 5 colleges that offer the level of skill that disney/pixar and dreamworks require. scad is one of them. one of the kids i know who graduated last fall was recruited by disney. of course, once you see his work, you know why.

a top quality art school education will cost as much or more than an ivy league degree. (upwards of 160k for 4 years) but will net a job that starts nearing 6 digits. for a 22 yr old yikes when a student can lower the out of pocket cost by scholarships and grants, so that out of pocket and student loans are minimized, they do well in their future.

if he is really thinking about the field, as soon as he is in high school, he should attend as many summer sessions as he can raise the money for. scad offers some that actually give college credit. they also have some that are 1-5 weeks long that are more like art based sleep away camp. i'm sure the other top schools do to, some of which are a lot closer to you than savannah! although, if he ever ends up here, i'd be honored to meet him.

scott, did you know that the percentages are more just the percent of what ever day of the calendar (june 8) that have had rain? that is only one of the tools they use, but if 100% of the last 50 june 8's had rain, they assume today will too.

pssssssssst Jiffy - Ivy league schools are way more than $160,000 nowadays! Amy is not even going to an Ivy league and it will be more than $50,000 for just her freshman year - I shudder to think what it will be when she's a senior!!!

Brian went to a school further down the list, and back then in his freshman year in 2001 it started at $44,000!!!

Thanks for the information/explanation, Jiffy! I read your post to Maxi and he was very interested.

My great-nephew Ben is enrolled in a college at Burlington, VT in the video game design program. For his specialty, he didn't need a huge art portoflio but top notch scores in the maths and sciences. Maxi is more interested in the art side of game design as well as straight animation. He will probably also take some film classes in high school as it would all tie together eventually.

I know the cost of higher education is rising steadily and that is always a concern. I'm sure Maxi will need to try for scholarships and grants to assist his process!

Ben got a quirky scholarship from a small, private foundation in NJ. He was told by the guy that many students who would've been otherwise accepted for the disbursement of funds failed to return the paperwork asked for! The foundation asked simply for the student's mailing address to send the checks! Ben got right on mailing things back and so he was one of the few who was awarded anything last year from this place.

Maxi would love to meet you, too, Jiffy, as when he was younger he thought YOURS was the voice of the Garden Helper because of the message you left on our machine that time! He's always been very fond of you.

Hi Merme,
You know me- gotta keep busy - it is just so much easier to clean house with Mom not here - she had gotten it into her head a few times to head outside when I am not in the same part of the house as her- without her walker and it is so very uneven - with the cottonwood tree roots and all , that's all I need for her to take a fall out there...
Got my upstairs and both bathrooms done- kitchen mopped too- had lunch - leftover chinese (yum) now need to empty the vacuum and do the living room and the familyroom- mom's bedroom and it will be done again... even got a couple loads of laundry in and is almost all done- need to iron tonight for Joe, only thing I iron is his work clothes... I found a couple pair of capris for myself at Sam's yesterday too- needed something to wear on our mini vacation-I am so looking fwd to it- just being able to do nothing if I want sounds heavenly to me.. no phones- no internet- will take my cameras though - it is right on the Big Thompson River, does have tv and we will take our portable dvd player- Joe has to watch tv or movies .. I got books to take with me... there is a hottub on the deck of the cabin too- and you can sit and watch birds and the river all day - they have hummer feeders all over too and hope to get some good pics of them , won't promise I am not the best photographer...
Well gotta finish up and then make my bread before Joe gets home... still on my list.

In about another hour things will be cooling off here. plan on going out and playing in the dirt a bit. I was busy this morning and didn't get out to play early before it was hot, and all day been itching to get out there.
we've had a very lazy and relaxing day today.

I need to do laundry also but have no intention of running the dryer and making the apt hotter. So, I'll wait til after sunset. That's the problem with having laundry in the kitchen area....

Nana I do hope you have a splendid trip!

And Jiffy, you and Scott come on up any ol' time you wanna. You guys would love the coast of Maine.

Cricket ~ I'm determined not to worry overly much about college expenses because I'm of a mind that if Maxi really wants to go, he will find a way, even if it means working his way through as so many others have done. Sometimes, things worked hard for are considered more valuable than things simply given. You know?
