I have a red-headed woodpecker in my new neighborhood. That's a description not a moniker for the bird I saw. I don't know what kind he is.
I do know that he likes the dead tree right by my house. I hope he's not going to be to upset when I have it taken down. It's a threat to the roof and I can't have that.
Was it him Coo-eying?

Hi Dodge, Yep I made it to the new place. Took awhile to get phone service which is why you didn't hear from me for awhile.
Love your housewarming gifts. They arrived perfectly.
Not so sound of body. I keep falling on my walkway. Hurts like the dickens.

Hey Dodge,
Give me some time to get settled in, or maybe fall would be the better time for the plants. I don't want to lose them before I even get them in the ground because of the heat. Although I have to say my hosta's have been real troopers. Some of my other plants haven't done as well. Probably because I couldn't get them in the ground soon enough. I just run out of energy.

My new camera's ready.....Canon EOS Rebel XSi with an EF 75-300mm Zoom lense, and an 8gb SD photo card. We had new carpet installed yesterday and as soon as I finish shortening the doors and rest a bit, I'm gonna load my Canon with some explosive shot and attack the fortress of the evil Avians.

Looking forward to the pics. I found out what the woodpecker is in my neighborhood. It's a red bellied woodpecker. So, now when I see him I can put him in the daily log. Now I just have to figure out what the little birds are. I may have to get binoculars for that. They are too small for me to identify when they are hoping around on the dead tree.
I hope the birds will stick around once I cut down that tree.

Nope, if they prefer the dead tree, once you cut it down, the thing they prefer in your yard will be gone, and so will they. Dead trees are VERY important to many wildlife species and should be left up if at all possible. Half of my willow tree died in the drought last year but I am leaving the dead parts to hang feeders on and for ivy to climb on. Many birds will nest and feed on the bugs that burrow into the dead wood. Starting this Winter, I should have a virtual bird smorgasbord. (and resort)

it's about 20 feet away and up slope of my house. I don't feel safe leaving it up. But maybe they will just transfer to the dead one in the back yard. I can leave that one up. It isn't going to cause any problems with the house. It is down slope.
Everyone else in the neighborhood has bird feeders up. Maybe when I get mine up they will come back for goodies.
