This is what I've been working on lately. I never got a baby gift out to my cousin's first grandbaby in Israel last summer , so I decided to make her a sundress - my first one ever. The pattern was sooooooo easy, and I like the way it came out - I did make it longer than the pattern called for because I hadn't seen that it really was for a top and not a dress. It looks better in person than it does in the picture.
I am starting a matching teddy bear for her that will have a similar dress on it. I need to do this quickly, as I just found out yesterday that her first birthday was July 7th.
Lynne--it is beautiful--and if hte photo does not do it justice then it will be more than the perfect gift. and a matching teddy bear--now THAT will be the icing on the cake. your cousin and her daughter will be so pleased.

Finished the matching bear, and decided to try to embroider lazy daisies on each dress front - I've never done that before, and it didn't come out too badly. Now to pack them up and find out the best way to send it to Israel.
These colors are much more true to the yarn than the first picture I posted of the sundress. I wish there were more little girls to knit for - everyone I know had a boy this past year!!!
Oh Lynne--I love the lazy daisys-----I think it makes the dress and it certainly makes the bear and the dress a matched set----VERY well done my dear!!
a perfect gift !!!

The problem with taking orders or even knitting things to sell at a craft fair, is that most people don't want to pay the price for the TIME it takes to make these items. The yarn is not that expensive, but it does take time - sometimes a lot more than people would pay for.
But I do appreciate your compliments very much!
And I do enjoy making things to give as gifts, so that's a win-win, right?
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww that is sooooooooooooo sweet Lynne! I love the soft brown color of the bear and the colors you used for the clothes are perfect! Dang you're good!!!!!!!!!
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
lynne, you did a superb job, as usual. and you are right about people not wanting to pay for the time. but they are beautiful, i'm glad that you give from your heart and hands.
I haven't mailed it yet, but when I took it to the post office yesterday to find the best way to do so, the woman behind the window was gushing over them - made me feel so good! She, too, said that I should sell them, but I really wouldn't get the money to cover all the time put into making them unfortunately.
She advised me to use a mailing envelope - that will cost about $12 to send, otherwise a box would cost about $21!!! AND... there is only insurance on items sent by priority mail and that would start at $25 and up. She said there is not tracking or other coverage, because sending mail to Israel is a 50-50% chance it will get to the destination!!! The USPS will not cover mail sent there anymore because it's on the customs end that is iffy. Didn't make me feel very good about sending it, but I have no other choice unfortunately...
I love the dress and the bear Lynne! You really do wonderful work! You are right about selling stuff....a lot of time goes into making things and people don't realize that and don't want to pay what it would take to cover your time and materials. I always feel like selling things would take the fun out of it anyways! You would always feel like you had to be doing it constantly and have to hurry and get it done. I like to knit at my leisure!
Thanks Jessica! I'm still waiting to see a picture of your slippers!!!
It seems that everytime I am finished with a "big" project, I find a simple, and silly thing to make. Today it was an "eye ball" for Amy! She has green eyes, therefore the color. It was such a quick thing to crochet (I know this is a knitting thread, but it's a small project that I wanted to share), that I think I'll make a bunch to have on hand if I ever need a quick little kid gift too.
For some reason my camera is having trouble taking pictures of greenery, making it much greener than it should be. I tried editing the pictures and this is the best I could do for now. I'll try and get some better ones in the morning.
Here are the slippers I made for Tristen and I. James has a pair too but I didn't get them in the picture. We have been wearing these for a few months now so they are a little worn. I need to felt mine a bit more again.
And here is a "green" bag that I made. I put some yarn in it so that you could see what it looked like. I laid it flat at first but you couldn't see the pattern very well. The color didn't show up that great. It is dark pink. Almost a hot pink.

jessica, are you the one who also crochettes? I crochet and tried slippers several times last winter. (for some reason I only crochet during hybernation) I could NEVER get the size right! not even close!

I do crochet too Cricket but I haven't done much crocheting since I learned to knit. I like knitting better. The slippers that I make are felted Cricket so you keep felting them until they are the right size. I had to keep taking them out to try them on and check the size. Do you knit? I am willing to share the pattern!
I've never knitted, and have only been crochetting for a couple of years (winters) now. I sometimes get books from the library with patterns. most have knitting and crochette patterns combined into one book. it seems these books always have more of a variety of knitting patterns than croch. or maybe that is just me with the 'grass is always greener' syndrome. is there more flexiblility in knitting? I just don't get the knitting...using two needles...who holds the thread if both hands are full of yarn and needles! ha ha.

I thought the same thing before I learned to knit. I took a class at a local yarn shop. Now I love it! I think there is more flexibility in knitting but that might be just because I actually learned to knit and I taught myself how to crochet. I have knit things that I would not have a clue how to crochet. I feel like there are a lot more patterns too. I knit or crochet way more in the winter too. I have done far less this summer. We are just too busy with other things but I knit when I have a chance. I take it in the car a lot when James drives.
The slippers are the most comfortable slippers I have ever had! We wear them all the time!! Tristen sleeps with his on sometimes!
The bag is a yo k2tog for a round and then knit for a round. That is the main part of the bag. It is a simple pattern. I can scan it and e-mail it to you if you would like. I made mine out of linen yarn but they say cotton works too. My friend made one out of cotton and said that it was quite a bit bulkier than mine and she liked the way the linen looked better. I have not seen hers as she gave it as a gift so I can't say for sure.
I only crochet, that's enough for me..... I don't even do that as often anymore as I used to. There's usually things I'd rather do. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy doing it. But I can't type on the computer and crochet at the same time.
