Here she is! My FIRST Hummer of 2008! Isn't she loverly! AND, The feeder she is drinking from is a TINY Walmart special, that costs only 97 cents! I bought THREE, they're cheap! AND, they are about the size of an average sized pharmacy medicine bottle.

Great pictures Thorny! And isn't is so very exciting when you see your first hummer of the season - I get giddy like a child and my family looks at me as though I've lost my mind!
I'm so glad your hummers like that feeder - I had bought some a few years ago and the only thing I got at them was the nectar dripping!!!
Love those pictures! I thought I still wasn't getting any and then the other day I had to make a quick run to the store and when I got back Aros told me that him and Joey saw a green hummer at my feeder! And I missed it!
you know thorny, while i have a couple big 22oz feeders,im thinking those small ones might be a smarter thing to use. wish they had perches, but i could put a lot more of them out if i had smaller ones.while ive been lucky enough to have a good number of them visit,i do see the nectar become cloudy before its gone, and if i had smaller feeders,i might be able to keep it fresher for my little buddies. i broke my favourite feeder the other day due to my own stupidity, dont use zip ties for hangers, they lose something after a few years due to ultraviolet light breakin down the plastic. stick with wire or something.
and rechargeable batteries,i use those nimh kind, they are real workhorses in cameras.they are a little pricy, but they are worth it. for some reason though, hey wont work in my house thermostat(programable digital )still,i bought a charger and a set of 4 aa's for something like $39 and ussally can find a set of 4 for somewhere in the area of $10 and can also do aaa's which i need for my tv remotes so it works out pretty well. i know there is something newer that works pretty good but these thing work way better than the nicad setup i had before. i know your pretty frugal, but i really think this is something to consider. i havent had em leave me in the lurch like alkalines have in both my camera or my scanner which i use at races. and if ya buy the right kit,it will come with a car charger, which i havent used and cant really endorse as i havent used it yet,but its a nice touch for mobile battery users.
and im glad you finally got one, mine always make think theres something still right with the world when they finally show up!

I've got a Canon Rebel EOS XSi, DSLR now and it CAN'T use AA's or AAA's It uses special batteries. It takes 2 1/2 hours to charge them, but the charge lasts for about a week with heavy use. I have TWO batteries for the camera.

I saw my first hummer yesterday. I was out watering the seedlings and this little hummer came right up to the railing they were on. Looked at me as if to say where is mine please.
I don't have a feeder for a hummer but I'll stop by walmart and pick one up since they are visiting.
This one appear to be silver in color. It sure was cute. At first before my eyes focused I thought it was a large insect. I've got to get new glasses again.
I have had Hummers since May 12. This last week or so I cannot seem to keep enough nectar in my 2 feeders, which each hold 2 cups. I am making new just about every morning.
Thorny---fantastic photo's--as always!!!

tk.........
Get a hummer feeder......They are so amusing.......... And love the sugar water.
I have two this year, Hummercane Camille and Fra Hummer. I am having to change my nectar quite often now. Luckily my Red Cannas are really starting to come in, PLUS they seem to like my Mimosa blooms and Crepe Myrtles, too.

NEVER!!!! put red coloring in your nectar, just PLAIN sugar water, 1 part sugar to 4 parts water. ALWAYS!!!! make sure there is red on and/or around the feeder itself, but NEVER in the nectar.

I gots THREE Hummers now! My new one is a VERY aggressive Teenage male Hummer I call, "Bubba Hum" (Hey, I'm in the South, OK?). He is the FIRST MALE Hummer I've ever had come to ANY house I have lived in. He showed up this morning and has been giving poor Camille and Fra fits......And then he starts a courtship flight, swinging back and forth in an arc like a pendulum chirping madly all the time. Like ANY teenage male, too much testosterone I guess.
