Spiders are predators, they can help reduce insect population in the garden and a viable alternative to the use of some pesticides.

They can trap and or eat insects, bugs, and other pests.[i.e. moth, flies].

Double ick. It's a great shot but I'm terrified of spiders.

I have one just like that outside my kitchen window. She's been in the middle of her web for weeks. Does she leave during the day when I'm not looking?

no. Once in a while something gets caught in the web and she eats it but she's probably been there a month now (I posted pictures a while back) and she's always right there. She's not even spinning any more web now. I need to look this up.

dhuber, it's awful to walk through a web and I do it all the time. I guess it's because we have too many trees that we have webs everywhere. In the morning when it's dark and I feed the dog and cat I wave my arms around in front of me like a crazy person to hopefully knock down the webs as I walk in the yard.
