Helloooo!! I know I am going to love this forum. You seem to cove so many topics that I could be here daily. I live in Quebec, Canada and hope there are some of you that can help me with wintering my plants and also growing beauties in the shade. My first challenge is that the previous owners of our home paved a path in asphalt right up to the front dooor. I want to put a cedar on either side of the door but an not ready to redo the path yet. Can I leave cedars in pots over the winter? I could take them into a 3 season solarium but the nights would be just as cold. Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you. Sarah R

Not much overhang, put I can wrap them. Again, I could bring them indoors out of extreme elements, but the roots will still freeze and that is waht worries me.

it really depends. if you put them against the south wall of the house, and bury them it, it is possible the roots won't freeze. you would create a mini zone for them. same thing, if you put them in that room you mention and place them against the wall that connects to the the rest of your house, etc.

Thanks for the feedback on the signature. Your power of prayer is all too real. Thank you for that too.

Thanks, that really helps seeing as I want them to be on the north side. I am sure I can find a warmer spot. Should I pick a bigger pot for the winter or should they stay in the pot I bought them in so as not to traumatize them too much?

Have you temps already dropped? If so I'd leave them alone. If it's going to be a while you can change pots if you want.

Even though I don't get cold temps like you do I do have plants that are supposed to die in the winter. I put them against the house facing south and a lot of times they make it through the winter.

We are going down to about 60 overnight but that could change soon. I will deffinitely keep them on the south side for the winter. Thanks so much.
