I have to help Colby disguise a turkey. He brought home a plain turkey shaped cut out and we have to either color or somehow dress it in a disguise so he won't be eaten at Thanksgiving. Wonder if I can find stuff for this project at Home Goods. I'd rather not have to go to WalMart.

it won't hurt to look---hey, walgreens has all kinds of stuff you might use....

could you try to "dress" the turkey up as a say skunk or squirrel (some small animal) and then place it in the middle of say a bunch of twigs with leaves on it (whatever color) to act as a bush for him to hide in?? OR just put him in said bush made with things from the yard and place a mask of some type in front of him. (as to imply he was dressed to go halloweening??

just some ideas..... why

This is just a big piece of cut out hard paper. Can't think of what it's called. Nothing is outlined. It looks like a round circle with a smaller circle on top with what I guess is legs hanging off of it. It's one piece. No neck. It's not a profile but is a front view. I think we're going to try to dress him as Santa Claus with red and black felt. I had thought of doing a snowman, using cotton, but I can't figure out how to make sections like a snowman. thanks for your ideas though. I'll certainly keep them in mind when we start working on this tomorrow.

You could always disguise the turkey as an American Indian as the feathers of the Tail could be used as the Indian Headdress,, disguise the neck and head as a tomahawk,, etc,,

I went to home goods yesterday. It is a nice store and right next to a Michael's, another nice store. I really didn't see much of anything I wanted and I certainly didn't find items for the prices that I have heard in here. Even their leftover Halloween items weren't as discounted as I would have liked. I may go back seasonally to check out what they have to offer if I am looking for a gift.

the snow man sounds cute as does the santa claus.

One could cut out a white piece of paper the same shape as the "turkey", then glue cotton balls on it, and then add the "face pieces" one that and then paper clip it to the turkey???--

The santa would look very cute too, and perhpas more fun for the little one to do. Good luck!!!

forgot to add you can purchase bags of feathers / beads for the head dress at craft stores and use a gluegun to adhere them,, and use one of those light weight foam paintbrushes for the tomahawk

my Home Goods Store isn't like yours. It has sheets and kitchen utensils and candy. It's connected to a Marshalls, the check out is the same check out, that has nothing but clothes. It was disappointing since it took us an hour to get there.

I did go to target to look for stuff for Colby but didn't find anything. Guess I'll end up at WalMart tomorrow - a fate worse than death.

There is a Broadway Shoe Store in the same parking lot so I had to buy shoes.

Not a totally wasted trip.

There is another store at Concord Mills which is about an hour maybe a little more in the other direction. I can't make up my mind if I should give that one a try or not.

The one near me had a the towels and sheets and kitchenware too. But they had a few garden decor things around as well. I will be checking in again as seasons change.

Sheri - I would not drive that distance to go to one of these stores, because as I've said many times it is purely hit or miss.

But... the 3 different stores I've been in have all had some sheets, towels, and blankets, lots of kitchenware, lots of decorating items for the house and garden, lots of gift items, some stationary, baskets, a little gourmet type food items, etc.

It is owned by the same company as TJMAxx and Marshalls and is their "home decor" department in one store without the clothes. They do not sell crafting items such as feathers and glue, or the types of things you would be looking for, for your project.

There are several Marshalls around Charlotte and they have all sorts of stuff other than clothes. A lot better stuff than was at this particular Home Goods Shop and then the attached Marshalls had only clothes. No garden stuff at all. I was hoping so to find one of those solar balls Oh well.

I went to WalMart today and got the stuff for Colby's turkey.

And Colby isn't so bad either. The turkey is disguised very well.
