I'm not sure I'm in the right forum, so feel free to let me know either way!

In May, my father died and a very good friend of his sent a beautiful potted double pink azalea. When I brought it home, (to central Illinois), the blooms stayed on the plant nearly forever. When it began to look a bit stressed, I moved it outside, to an "early morning sun" afternoon-shaded corner of my patio and set it in a small wooden wheel barrel planter. The plant loved it. There weren't any further blooms, but the foliage on it is such a wonderful green. I've had no bug problems or really any problems at all. We've had our first frost, but I brought the planter in for the night. When the temps were forcasted to be back higher, I put it back outside. Now, when the frost comes again, I'm sure it'll stay awhile. I don't know what to do with the plant! I've been told leaving it in the planter will surely kill it. And I don't really have a "good" place to replant it and I'm wondering if it's really too late to try?

As you can see...ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Sandy

Azaleas are evergreen, except for the deciduous hybrids (i.e. Exbury . Do not keep moving it around. Let it sit in a shady, bright area. For winter root protection, bury the pot in soil and/or mulch. Soil in zone 5-6 freezes to an average of 3"-6". So, 3" of mulch over 3" of soil will insulate your plant's roots through winter. The plant's genetic survival imperative will kick-in.

I love the sweet scents wafting in the breeze. I stop to admire the vibrant colors of all living things. And people think me odd. Then ODD I am!!!
