I was in the grocery store the other day picking out some veggies for a salad and spotted some bean sprouts. I've seen them before and heard of them, but never ate them. they just looked SO good! I had to buy some. we used about half with some salad one day and last night I stirred fried the rest with a bit of orange bell pepper. yummy! I've been reading up on growing them. it sounds SO simple. anyone else grow their own? one site I saw said they use lentil bean seeds and another said .......??? some other kind of bean that started with an "M". (four letter word....it's slipping my mind right now)

You are probably thinking about Mung Bean.

How to sprout Mung Bean. The mung beans are available at Asian/oriental/Chinese grocery stores.

I can't get these beans from the local feed store? I live in a small town. no way I"m driving an hour and a half to two hours to buy some seed.
and YES, 'mung' was the word I was looking for. do you grow them papito? from what I"ve read you don't even need soil. (haven't checked out the link you provided yet) and thanks for the response. I'll go look at it now.

Mung Beans and mung bean sprouts are commonly sold in grocery stores here, so there is no need to grow or sprout beans. If you like, I can send you a few bags of mung beans. Just PM me the address where you want them to go.

I just started growing sprouts about a month ago.

I got a 1 pint canning jar and the screw on ring and some cheese cloth.

Put about a tablespoon of beans in the jar the first night and fill it half way with water. Put the cheese cloth over the top and screw on the ring and let them soak over night.

Drain the water out the next morning. I water my indoor plants with it.

Rince them morning and night until they get the size you want.

I bought a packet specifically for sprouting, but you probably could get yours from the feed store. I imagin they are the same seeds, they just charge you more for the packets.
