This pentium 4 that I was given is a major pain. I've loaded the driver for the printer from hp but the colors are not a match at all. HP says contact Microsoft. But the stuff on the tecnet over there doesn't make any sense to me at all. Can you guide me through what I need to do? Or is it one of those things where the simplest answer is just to get a different printer?

Unfortunatley W2K is just one of those "fickle" operating systems for "standard" users... Windows NT transisioned to 2000 (then 2003) while 98 transisioned to ME then XP (and now Vista); so your W2k is more suited for "server" work than casual user mumbo jumbo...

While the drivers themselves should *just work* I wouldn't really know where to start trying to troubleshoot on it... did it ever work "properly"?

It's a used computer so I don't know the answer to that.

I can print out black and white.

Can you suggest a used colcr printer that might work with the word 2003, windows 2000?

Well, you should first attempt their latest driver:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/software/930-enu-win2k.exe

If it fails (hp failing on older printers, hehe) then look into something new... what price range are you looking at? what features? (just a printer, or printer scanner fax blah blah blah)?

NewEgg has a boatload of printers, so many options it's nearly scary lol

Thank you for the links I'll take a look. But it may be awhile before I can afford anything.

I would of course love the printer, scanner, fax blah blah blah but I doubt they are in my price range.

Canon has a decent one for $99, Clicky

HP also has a good one for $99, Clicky

Both have a decent rating and huge reviews...

Oh dear--if we, any of us, only had $200.00 to spend on a printer.---if only my HP in the basement would work on this computer----I still go down and use it if I am in real need.

I just reakized....
The 932C HP is what I have in the basement on the old computer that is down there.
I love it and it works like a charm--well 95% of the time. (it does not like to cancel prints---& if you do hit cancel--it runs & runs & runs---blank sheets out)

I know what you mean about grabbing paper. This one got ahold of my address lables and really made a mess. And those labels were expensive. Now I still have to hand write out half of the christmas cards grrrrrh.

I'm glad that you like the one you have. I went and got a color ink cartridge for it today. We'll see if that will fix the problem or if it is the driver. In which case I plan to cry alot.

I just got back from the computer place. Tbey had to fight the trojans for control of my computer again. But it looks like this time we have a complete win for our side. Now lets just hope I can keep it free of trojans and viruses.
