Come on over here before we all get in trouble for yakking over there... that last CH was 106!!

Oh boy am I having a yummy treat! I baked some acorn squash and then fancied it up with cinnamon, nutmeg and butter! Yum! Hot and delicious on this snowy day!

That sounds very good, Merme. That warms you twice, once in the baking and then in the eating.I wish I could enlighten my family to that joy. Meanwhile I indulge myself once in a while in spite of them. I am making more chicken salad and egg salad by request. They seem to be going down well with John right now.

I"m about to throw some supper on, tacos tonight. then we have to get out in this nasty weather for my son's band concert tonight. we have a cold front blowing through now. the temp has already dropped about 10 degrees in the last half hour. it is expected to drop another 10-15 degrees by morning.

Gee Cricket, your tacos sound awfully good. I am going to have to make some this weekend when Maxi is home. We haven't had them in ages.
Tina I'm glad John is still interested in eating a little something.
Our snow finally stopped and it never did turn to rain as predicted. Rain on top of the snow always makes such a slippery dangerous mess, it is just as well they were wrong this time.

we have tacos just about once a week. they are so easy and everyone eats them up without complaint. I went and read about the jerry ma.....whatever it was that you had for breakfast this morning, merme. I've been curious about that all day. that does sound like a nice hardy breakfast. I am very familiar with the elbow macaroni, the other we have down here but I just never buy it and cook with it.

He eats more than I do, Merme. He has just gotten a bit pickier about the things he wants. And the texture is very important. He gets very tired of chewing so everything is very minced and smooth to swallow. It is a challenge to find things that find favor. But it is a challenge that I love to take on.

You should try working with Ziti sometime, Cricket. It is a very hardy pasta and holds together in sauce or soup. Baked Ziti is awesome. I used to put ziti pasta in Maxi's soup when he was little and he would put his fingers through the tubes. Now when I add it to soup he manages to just eat it without wearing it first but he still loves it.
My back has been bothering me very much lately and I can't stand to be in my chair for more than an hour at a time. I see the specialist on the 23rd and I can't wait! They say he is brilliant and I hope so! An osteopath, he does some kind of manipulation. At the moment, the only time I'm pain free is when I am laying on my tummy. Now, how much of the day can I spend doing that?! So, back and forth I go.

Most pasta shapes all taste the same but they do lend different textures to things. And kids can have loads of fun with different shapes. Although elbow mac is usually the cheapest, other shapes don't have to be a lot more expensive. I love the huge shells stuffed with cheese and meat sauce. Heck, I just love pasta. It is a major craving for me sometimes.

For spaghetti dishes I prefer Angel Hair as my tummy seems to manage it better. But then, I'm a girl who also prefers a light spaghetti sauce and will sometimes use a red clam sauce as a substitute.
Maxi would gladly eat elbows one way or another every day if I would cook them that often! The only thing he doesn't like is with mayo. He hates mayo.
I say "what's there not to like?"
But then, I have a dear friend who won't eat cold pasta of any kind, ever.
Go figure.
I'm ready to make something hot to drink but I'm not sure what I want yet.

I no longer like cold pasta, either, Merme. No mayo for me please. I am a miracle whip girl. But it is mayo for the rest of the family. Ohhhh, another gooood quake!

Maxi hates Miracle Whip also. You can't convince him there is any difference between that and Mayo. I'm still annoyed at the person who told him when he was little that you can die from Mayo (when it spoils). He thinks eating Mayo is like playing Russian Roulette and won't have it.
But then someone convinced his little brother not to eat peanuts!
People ought to be more careful what they tell kids!!!
I just poked myself in the eye with my fingernail. Man, that hurt!

My kid bundles up unbelieveably well and stays out in the weather until he is soaking wet. Then he comes in, changes, and goes right back out again! There is no stopping him when it comes to playing in snow.
I didn't grow up in a big snow area and was quite unprepared when we first moved here before Maxi was born. I learned!
And you are right: it never hurts for a girl to try. Even I am funny once in a while though I am not famous for it!

egg noodles are GREAT, especially for stroganoff. Yummy!
I'm glad you enjoyed the band concert. I always like to hear the kids play.
Cold wind, huh? That doesn't sound real fun.

yea, my one and only wind chime is chiming out on the porch. I'm one of those rare people who don't like the constant ding dong ding of the wind chimes so I put this where it only dings in strong wind. yepper. it's making some racket out there.

We have some pretty good winds going today. Driving on the freeway was pretty fun. It looked like all the cars were being driven by drunks, including mine. Winds here are a given but we need to watch for fires. We are supposed to get light frosts tonight too and I believe it. My toes are cold.

I have a nice collection of wind chimes but none of them are outside since we moved to this apartment. They are mostly hanging over the washer & dryer in the laundry. I miss them being outdoors because I love the way they sound.
When we move I hope to buy one of those chimes with the deep tones. They are quite expensive, but so lovely on a tuned pitch.

Oh a tuned pitch is a marvelous thing, Cricket. They do not just clank and bang; they are musical.
I worked on my Christmas cards tonight. Didn't get very far, though. I always want to send more than I can though I never send to local people I will see.
My Physical Therapist was delighted with me this afternoon when she found out I've been practicing getting up and down from our loveseat. It is terribly low and soft, but it does allow me another place to sit. I just need much strength and so for now using it isn't a pretty sight!

oh, that's great merme. and it doesn't have to be a graceful site, as long as you can figure out how to do it. and it sounds quite cozy, or at least a different position for you with a different view. I think I'm gonna go get cozy with my book. it is getting really good. I'm feeling a bit snacky, but hate to eat so late. just gotta push that out of my mind. he he

Keep warm, my friend. Find a good blankie to go with that book.

I'm reading the last book of the Twilight series. Yeah I know...it conjures up images of teenage girls screaming lustfully for Edward Cullen the main character....but you know? They are REALLY good. Like really, really good. I'm so glad my best friend loaned me her books and that my 17 year old niece pushed me into them.
I typically only read vampire books/chick lit books....well these are vamp books but I thought they'd be too tame for my liking. It's an amazing love story. And now I want my own sparkly Edward Cullen. (if you've read them you'll get that).
What are you reading Cricket?
I'm a little brain dead today, I got behind on my online schoolwork while I was sick and during the holidays when my brother was here. So I decided to do 60 pages of work today. Which is a LOT. Typically I'd do 20 pages a day. I think there is smoke coming out of the top of my head.
Went to the library tonight and got about 9 more books that I had called in---so I have a lot of reading in my future. I read super, mega, ultra fast though. I can easily do a paperback in one night.
I helped Athena wrap presents tonight. They had Santa's secret workshop at school. The kids take in money and a shopping list of people to buy for and they get to buy stuff by themselves, with a little chaperoned help. The funny thing is I did Santa's secret workshop when I was in that same elementary school, and my nephew did it when he was there. Most stuff is $3 and under and it just really excites the kids to go by themselves and pick things out.
Other than that I'm still just on the tail end of my cold. Hanging in here, wishing it were Christmas already. I get so excited. That's the best part I guess....the days leading up to it. I just love getting Athena all worked up and excited.
I've wondered where you were today, Ms. Loz! You have been a very busy she.

I was just sitting at my sliding glass doors admiring the job Maxi did with our lights. He only had a single strand of white lights but he doubled back on the rail and made it look far more elaborate. The kid always does good work. Next year I might actually get him something to work with and let him have at it! I think those lit candy canes would be fun.
