he's so pretty. I've noticed that cardinals are skidish. Least noise and they fly away. Other birds don't seem as sensitive to noise.

Hey , we both need closeup lenses.......Wonder what Thorn would suggest? Not over $100 dollars.

Be better off with a new camera , then a $700. lens.

Dodge, Your camera can't use different lenses. You can only use the lense it came with. You need a DSLR (Digital Single Lense Reflex) camera to use different lenses. You buy the camera and THEN buy the lenses to go with it.

They make dozens of different lenses for SLR cameras. You HAVE to make sure you buy the lenses for YOUR make and model of camera. The lenses are NOT interchangeable. A Canon camera can NOT use a lense made for a Nikon and vice/versa.

My Canon Rebel EOS XSi (Called the Canon 450D in Europe) runs about $600.00 (£300), and the EF 75-300MM lense I use runs about $150.00(£75). Then throw in a tripod from Walmart for $25-$50, and you are ready to go!

I didnt know that either Thorn, since I've got the same camera as dodge. I thought I read somewhere I could get a zoom lens. It would have driven me crazy looking for something that wasn't meant to be.

Mine was a gift. I can't afford them by myself either. I would LOVE a Macro lense for my camera but they run about $400.00 (£200). My son has a Nikon D80 camera with a whole LIBRARY of lenses for it. Canon and Nikon cameras are pretty much identical in quality and performance. It's just what you feel comfortable with, and Canons are a little easier for me to use.

There may be. Just make sure it is FOR the S5 IS and NOT some other model. Contact some camera stores in your area and talk to the salesmen there. The S5 MIGHT have an adapter for different lenses.

Johnny bought my camera at Wolf Camera. I'll stop and ask there. Do you think they'll be honest and not sell me something that I don't need?

You guys are making me jealous- except for the bit about shopping on Boxing day!!! The day after Christmas has to be one of my favourite days of the year, but no shopping, thanks very much! I like to watch the yachts leave Sydney Harbour for the Sydney to Hobart yacht race- it's an ocean race that's pretty famous over here. And the other boxing day tradition is watching or listening to the start of the boxing day cricket test match at the MCG. Annnd of course, there are always left-overs that have to be eaten.

Oh......sorry, no puns meant.. We just are a bunch of bargain hunters here and day after christmas I found is gooooooooooooood.

Yacht watching would be different tho. I do like to watch the biggies sail.
Airplanes too.........
Do you eat the crickets?

yikes

We don't celebrate Boxing Day in the U.S. Most people don't even know what it is. I didn't until about 6 years ago. Our equivalent of Boxing Day is Black Friday, the day after our holiday of Thanksgiving, which occurs in late November. The stores have UNBELIEVABLE sales on that day. Many stores give away some items for free. Last year, on Black Friday my son got a computer with LCD monitor and a Canon printer/scanner/fax machine for only $150.00 U.S. He is a trained computer tech and then modified that computer up into a Super Computer with 2.5 Terabytes of hard drive space and about 5 Gigs of RAM. He builds a new computer every year for family members and replaces the most outdated one in the house with the new one. The old ones still function and are used for backup or as spares. It's sweet.

AND I know a fair amount about Cricket, too, although almost NOBODY in the U.S. plays it or knows anything about it, and that's a bit of a sticky wicket, if you ask me.

Hey Stevie, I think it's South Africa this year isn't it? Should be interesting!!
I'm not sure what the Boxing Day sales are going to be like over here this year, with the credit crunch, lots of our shops have had sales already!!
