Good Morning everyone---just about ready to go get my 2nd cup.....

It is icy here too, Loz---all kinds of school closings----Emily does not have to teach today, as her school closed, but Valarie's school did not close which is strange as a lot of the othere schools in the area did, but she still has the flu anyway, as does her DH so she will be home anyway.

I just called my ceramics class---and no one has shown up so I will stay home today as well.---I may do some baking this morning, which will give me the added bonus of warming the kitchen-- clap

This afternoon, it is supposed to warm up---I will then be able to go get some groceries for valarie & JJ.---she was telling me she had no soup yesterday....

what are the rest of you up to so far----

The other day when it was icy out you couldn't even walk the 50 steps from here to there......

Be back later! wavy Have a great day everyone.....

Funny, Thorn!

I'm home again and not too, too frozen! I took my crocheted afghan with me to put on my lap and cover my legs up and it helped that we aren't having a bad weather day... it is in the low 20's but sunny!

All of you in icy areas, STAY SAFE!

kids are more fragile than we think. When Shelley was in 8th grade and was on the homecoming court, she was sick with the flu but wanted more than anything to go. So we did and she fainted during the ceremony. Her dad and I ran to get her and the first words out of her mouth were "did everybody laugh." Of course no one had laughed but she had a hard time returning to school.

It has been raining here all night. It's so wet and yucky.

Merme, how long do they spin you. Did you go at 8 and were back by 11? That's a short spin.

I went to the gym today and then to the grocery store. Now I want to take a nap. May just do that.

I wasn't at dialysis today, Sheri. I go on Monday, Wednesday, Friday... I leave here at 11 and am home usually by 5. But last Friday and this Monday I had complications and was there an hour longer each time.

Today I just went to the back specialist for a treatment & then to Wal-Mart on the spur-of-the-moment. I haven't been to Wal-Mart in a year, I don't think.

I was terribly pleased because I rode in a car today for the first time since August! It is nice to be strong enough again!

My EX's girlfriend would like me to make her an afghan in shades of purple so when I was at Wal-Mart today I got a dark purple, a medium purple and a varigated purple. I made the afghan just under 60 inches wide and I have 10 rows done on it so far, doing three rows of each color so its turning out to be a handsome stripe I think she will enjoy.

I hear a nap calling my name.

Merme, it's nice that you and the girlfriend are nice to each other. I think that's the way it should be especially when children are involved.

What did you think of WalMart? Has it changed much?

I fixed vegetable soup for dinner. It's a good rainy, dreary day meal I think.

They are predicting nasty weather for tomorrow in time for the early commute which isn't supposed to be too bad, but lots worse by the evening commute.

I had shrimp soup tonight because I'm still chilly.

Sheri the Super Wal-Mart nearest to me never changes. I still hate that place! lol A few years ago Target came to Maine and in my opinion they outdo Wal-Mart in significant ways... most particularly, they keep the store very clean and well organized. Our Wal-Mart has been so bad in the past that I've complained to the manager about it!

This shades of purple afghan is really pretty. Purple isn't my favorite color so I was a little uncertain when I was selecting the yarn, but it is turning out nicely.

The back specialist really helped me a great deal today. Last night I was in such misery when I laid down after dialysis I could barely get back up again, the pain was so great. I ended up spending half the night sitting up on the couch trying to find a comfortable position. Now I am pain free and very glad. He is a miracle worker.

that back doc is doing wonders for you merme. I hope you are not falling in love! ha ha.
seriously, I'm glad your pain is gone! I hope you get some much needed rest tonight.

funny you think target is more organized than walmart? I can never find anything in target. I just don't GET how they lay things out there. but our targets down here are cleaner than the walmarts. I have to agree with that for sure! I personally avoid both places cause they are a 30-40 minute drive for me and I very much like just living in my small town. "if they don't sell it at the grocery store, feed store, hardware store, or dollar store - I don't need it that bad". he he

Driving distances are long up here, too, Cricket. The town that has the Super Wal-Mart & other big shopping is 30 minutes to the south. The town that has a regular Wal-Mart, Target, AC Moore's & the mall is 20 minutes to the north. It is worth the drive to get the savings.

Our little resort town has a hardware store I use alot, a post office, a dollar store, a market and about 10 million souvenier shops and sportswear stores! Not to mention hotels on every corner and 16 in-between. Plenty of places to eat, too, in Season; only a couple during the Off.

Good evening girls......I vastly prefer buying at target when I can---but I agree with cricket---I can find things easier in Walmart than I can In target----and in our target there are less choices and they out & out just do not carry some things---((It is not a greatland target though))--Our target is so very much cleaner also.

I buy at target when I can, but often end up at Wal-mart even if I would rather not buy there---

Dollar General is my friend------

In my 'town' (an unincorporated place with only a name) I don't even have a post office. There is a mom's store for some dusty canned goods or a coke. For most items, I go into town (down the hill about 10-15 miles). Since I have joined TGH, 'town' has actually crawled much closer to me. And I am not so sure I approve. But they built a Walmart about 6 miles away and in another direction a whole crowd of stores, banks, Target, Lowe's and Home Depot; including a branch of my favorite grocery. So things are a wee bit more convenient. It is not the commerce I am so adverse to. It is the houses, way too close together. I would hate my dining room window to be short feet from the neighbor's playroom window or something. I need elbow room and space to garden and plant hedges for privacy. I don't even have curtains.

dollar general is my friend too, carol.....but family dollar is my very best friend. except I call it the 50 dollar store! cause that is usually what I spend in there no matter what I go in after in the first place.

well I got the beast washed finally! (my two labs) they make me drag their 70-80 pound butts into the shower but once they are in there, their eyes are practically rolling back in their heads they enjoy it so much. Maybe they enjoy my great effort of dragging them in there. sometimes I think dogs have much more of a sense of humor than we give them credit for!

I couldn't agree more! and If I get done with a shower and forget to bring a towel into the bathroom. I sure as heck don't want to worry about a neighbor seeing me trampsing through my OWN house in search of one. blush lol

Thee was a very nice "dollar tree" in the town 20 minutes away--and it was always full of people--it closed down--I often wonder if the target and Wal-marts had them 'run out of town'???

The other reason I prefer Target is that they have better quality and always charged up electric carts! lol The ones at Wal-Mart are a mess! One time when I was shopping there, I had THREE carts go dead on me just trying to get across the store one time! The clerks kept bringing me a different cart, but no deal. They ended up bringing me a regular wheelchair with a basket attached & my friend pushed me around. I was just glad I wasn't alone shopping that day!

Thorny being that close to a Wal-Mart does the traffic bother you?

We don't have a target here yet.....but they are nice stores.

I actually don't mind our Walmart though. It's clean, and big, and everyone speaks English--which to me is important. And it's a super one, so it has everything. We're there so much it's like a second home.....and I feel like the door greeters are friends almost. lol

My best friend hates Walmart where she lives because she said nobody in there speaks English. Now it's not a discriminatory thing....It's just when you go shopping you kind of expect people to be able to help you in English right?

There is already one little strip mall in front of Walmart. Now they are building a much bigger one next to Walmart. I can't wait to see what we get in there.

I also love Dollar General. We have one in our small town of less than 3,000.....it's a lifesaver. We are there almost everyday for something. We have a Family Dollar and Dollar Tree about 5 miles away. The Family Dollar is kind of junky, but I like that......The Dollar Tree is a newer, huge building....few years ago there was a fire inside and I could've cried. It was a new building, but they rehabbed it and fixed it all up and it opened back up again!

It's Athena's favorite because she knows with $5 she can get 5 things. Not many stores let you do that. lol I get a lot of craft things in there. thumbup

Well we have freezing rain and a 2 hour delay this morning. The guy from the weather channel is reporting this morning from Hagerstown MD. The city that we go shopping in--to the outlets. It's about 1hr 45 minutes away, so that's sort of neat to see them there.

Stomach is growling. Need food in it. Might call mum. lol Got a doggy sleeping at my feet that wants to be pet 24/7. grin

Hope you all have a wonderful morning/day/night. lol

I agree, Loz.... being able to communicate (in any language) while shopping is a very important thing! When I travelled in Europe I discovered that many merchants had at least the basics of several languages to help their customers. Which was a good thing for me (and I'm sure many others!) because my French & Italian aren't too terrific.

Like your friend, I would get frustrated in an American store if I couldn't get help in English.

You know, I have no idea which dollar store is which in my area! I know where the dollar stores are and use them from time to time, but I couldn't begin to tell you which is the Family or the General or whathaveyou.... I just know the ones I like by location so I'll say "Please run over to the dollar store by Hannaford in Saco" or "Please stop at the dollar store behind Burger King in Biddeford". why

Our weather is a mess and our schools are closed today. I have to go out anyway for dialysis, but the drivers w/ the chair vans & stretcher trucks are good so I don't have to fret about it.

Tina, what kind of dogs do you have. We wash our dog outside except for ToDeTa, who is small, and can fit into the sink like a baby.

I only go to WalMart in an emergency. I think I told my story here before but. One time I was looking for an oil lantern, went to WalMart, couldn't find anyone who spoke enough English to understand "oil lantern." True story. Monroe is like living in Mexico. Once at the Health Dept. a man who had been waiting to see a doctor said to me when I called him back that he felt like he should be talking f---ing Mexican after waiting in the waiting room.

Target doesn't have garden stuff though. Big drawback for me. So I go to Lowes.

Target is by far my favorite store as far as those types of stores go. I have to drive 25 miles to get to Wal-Mart or Target but in that town we have the choice of Wal-Mart, Target or Shopko. There used to be a K-Mart too but that closed. I always go to Target unless there is something that I absolutely can't get there...then I will go to Wal-Mart but dread it. In this town it is always packed to the gills. It frustrates me. I also think that Target has better quality items. I go through their clothes section pretty much every time I am in there. They have nice stuff. I also think their staff is friendlier.

I never have much luck at Target here. The people that work there are so rude. The Target in Lexington I used to go to was much better. I like the clothes there but there are so many department stores in town and the mall that they constantly all have huge sales to compete with each other and their things are way cheaper. Back in the fall I took Brennan shopping at Kohl's for new clothes and shoes. We got about $300 worth of stuff for $80. Unfortunately he has decided he only wants to wear Abercrombie and Fitch stuff now. Their sales make stuff about the regular price of other stores. It's terrible that at 9 years old kids are already deciding who is popular or not by what brand of clothes they wear.

If you never have you should. These things are fun and fun is good.
