Today I got a quaker parrot from this lady I know. Her husband told her to get rid of it or he would kill it. She said he also told her if she brought any animal in again she would be out of a place to live. So I got this sweet baby Quaker who is less then a year old.

YOYO sees himself in the computer monitor I figure you can't start their computer lessons too soon. haha

Bratbird took him right in as a buddy.

What a sweet looking bird, Jimmy - I'm so glad he found his way to your home!

I miss having birds - I grew up with at least 2 birds or more in our house all the time. We even had birds after we were married, and the kids had birds too, but once the last one died, and we then started getting cats... well... with 5 cats in the house now it just would not be a smart move.

But I do miss having one a lot.

Keep posting your sweeties, Jimmy!

I'm glad you could give Yoyo a home, Jimmy. What a cool bird! And Bratbird looks like fun. Hopefully Yoyo will be a good friend for you and bratbird for many years to come.

Hope your friend will be okay; think her husband may need some counseling.

Thanks everyone he sure is sweet/ Stevie I think her husband needs something more then counseling. Maybe a good swift kick to get his attention then explain a few simple things to him. Diane he is trying to talk he set on my shoulder and did his best to talk to me. Him and Bratbird got on the back of my chair and had a long get to know you chat. Poor thing they cut his wings too close and squared off his tail madd when he tried to fly he fell like a rock then he came to me and looked up so pitiful so I picked him up and cuddled him a little and told him I love him. He likes the bigger cage I put him in he climbed all over it even Trent came over and talked to him. Glad you all like him he is a sweetheart for sure.

Cindy thank you so much that is about the best compliment I have ever gotten. I am about ready to sign CG on my mail Critter Gatherer haha as you know I can't stand to see a helpless animal or bird abused. You know I love you too. Just waiting to rescue me an Congo African Grey then I will have adopted the best of the best. In my idea anyone who would abuse or discard an animal, bird or reptile would do the same to a child even their own.

Thanks Dodge and JunieGirl today is bird free Sunday all birds get free run of the house. Right now YOYO is sitting on the edge of the keyboard as I type watching every move I make Bratbird has gone from my shoulder and cap (have a cap and shirt I use for the birds when they sit on me.) Wolfman is on top of Trent's cage and Trent is in a towel I use to cover the birds rooting around in it haveing the time of his life. Every once in a while he pokes his head out to look around and see what I am doing. haha A few minutes ago I was getting biscuits Ready and warming up the oven for Biscuits and gravy for me and the dogs the Bids gets only Biscuits when YOYO tried to fly to the cabinet I didn't see him so started calling I turned around and YOYO was right behind me walking to catch up to me he was calm I was getting worried just glad I didn't step on him. haha

Yoyo sounds like he is right at home with you. I am glad you didn't step on him also, Jimmy. It sounds a little like having Teddy around. He is silent a lot so you have to get eyes-on in order to know where he is. Walk careful, my friend.
Will his wings grow back enough to fly someday?

Stevie I have tons of photo's of all my birds most if not all were posted on here in years gone by have no idea how to find them. sheri I just keep a close eye on them all the time they are out. Normally Bratbird and YOYO are on my shoulder or cap

Wolfman roams all over the house but is always calling back when I call him. Trent can fly but seldom does he would rather crawl around on all the cages if he gets jealous enough he will come to me and sit on my shoulder talking to me and the others at times I have all of them on me at the same time. Anytime the birds are out of their cages the dogs (outside of MIMI) are outside so to not risk injury or death of one of my feathered babies. If I want Trent to go to his cage I tell him "Trent get in your cage and he will go and get in it he is stubborn and stand offish but also he gets in loving modes all he wants to do then is cuddle up under my chin or if I lay down he will get on my chest and sit there till I move .

They sound like good company! I haven't had pet birds, but friends of mine have in the past. One was a pink and grey galah named Malcolm. He was a cheeky bird. He would nibble away on your finger, and then sometimes he would give it a good chew just for fun (and draw blood). Another was a love bird; it used to sit on your shoulder and sometimes chew on your ear. It always made me nervous, but it was always gentle; never caused me any damage.

I had a look at some of your photos. Love those white brugmansias. I want to get some here, but they are not very common; our weather is a little cool for them. I can order some from Queensland, but at a cost! And I would have to bring them inside for winter.

Steve

Birds are cool,, I prefer mine outside, on the farm.
They actually annoy me when I work out there.. Same ole song over an over.

LOL

Now about Brugs .....we have winter here .. They cut the brugs into 8 inch pieces and put them in the basement for winter .

then back out for spring.. I am new to it but mine are in the basement and I some have leaves again.
They are pretty.

Stevie I don't have any brugs mine did not bloom you may have seen my Moon flower also called Datura or jemson weed. I have plenty of that seed if your govt. will allow it I will be glad to send you a bunch. It is coming on winter there if I am not mistaken you could start them inside with lights then come spring you could transplant them outside. I have no idea how cold your winters get but here in north Texas ours normally come back after winter as our winters or no where near as hard as they are were dodge lives. Find out and let me know I will send you some seed.

oh, I'm just now seeing this post. I noticed it was a bird thread then I saw dodge talking about brug seeds. brugs are poisonous right? whoa! I got confused and curious and concerned. so I had to open this thread up and check it out. ha ha
How precious, jimmy! he is a sweet looking little fellow! you are so good with your birds. that is awesome that bratbird took right up with him. an instant friend in a new place.
a buddy of mine has three large birds. she was feeding them one morning while I was there and the big peach colored parrot got out of his cage, climbed on top and started hopping and clucking like a chicken. when he would get to the end of the top of the cage he'd do this shrill WHOOOO, turn around and hop back with the chicken clucking again. then her other multi colored parrot started yelling 'he's out!' 'he's out!' it was hillarious. I laughed till I had tears coming down my face!

Hi Jimmy, thanks very much for your offer of seeds. But I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't be allowed into the country; they are very strong on those sort of controls.

I did read something about brugs/daturas being poisonous, but it is only a problem if you are planning to smoke them, which I am not! Okay, I do have the occasional glass of red wine, but smoking brugs is not one of my vices!

This is a place where we can get brugs in Oz. They have some beauties (just expensive)!

https://www2.ans.com.au/~sacred/angels-trumpets/index.htm

Cricket, those birds you wrote about are hilarious! You know, if we take the time to observe animals, we will see a lot of very funny things.

Cricket that sounds hilarious . I get a lot of entertainment just watching my birds. Stevie Datura are toxic from roots through out the plant from all I understand. That site has some pretty brugs but your right a little on the pricey side.

They grow amazing flowers, don't they? Does it have a strong scent? I'm thinking if you can grow them there, with all that snow (I know you bring them in), I should be able to do it here. But i have been told off for growing some tropical plants, like frangipani and murrayas. Still, life's too short to not give it a try!

They are out of this world when in bloom.

I have taken on lots of flowers not supposed to grow in the area.. Some I start earlier inside and take them outside.. spring.

Everyone seems to be successful with Brugs in Michigan it is colder then here and the lady had awesome blooms. Why not try.......?
I even had a banana tree this summer outside...it really grew like a bad weed.
Doubt if it comes back, I let it out .. Must of had a stem as thick as my fist.

No harm in trying anything.......My motto is, I love a challenge. Something different every year.

I love changing all the time.. I didnt even know how to pick seeds till I came on one of the swaps........Now I am spoiled.

Please try.

That is cool, Jimmy. I think in my area, I would worry about all of the hawks and things. He is such a pretty bird. And a lucky bird too.
