Please could someone help me out. I was given a banana tree as a gift and it was looking beautiful.I think i over-watered it,now all the leaves are brown and dying and it looks ready for the bin.The only bright spot in this sorry tale is a brand new little leaf at the base of the stem. What can i do?

You can cut away all but the new baby and get yourself a new banana tree in a short period of time. Bananas act like annuals; they flower, fruit and die. A new plant starts from the base. If you plant died from any other reason you still have the baby there.
