Is anyone on a special type of diet or have any diet restrictions that would like to swap recipes, tips, and ideas? To give you an example, I can no longer eat anything that has gluten, soy, and I have to really minimize dairy to almost nothing. Eating has become a bit tricky but I'm here and feeling better and learning new things every day about how to eat for me. Just wondering if there was anyone else out there.

Cheryl, Start at recipezaar. Then when there search in their directory for gluten free. Soy free. and dairy free.

Cheryl,
My mom has the celiac disease---I know a lot about it and she has many web sites for recipes & information. If you like I could help you OR give you her e-mail address

Thanks Carol. I don't have celiac's disease, just gluten intolerance. Not as bad but still no fun. I have been doing pretty well with it and have even come up with some of my own recipes. I have founds lots of info on the internet. I guess I was just hoping that I could find someone to share recipes with, not too many people have to restrict their diet as much and it can be difficult to come up with new things to eat. New info is always good though.

well mom would be thrilled to share recipes I am sure--and she has her own computer (although spelling is not her strong suits)

The thing with the gluten intolerance is that many foods (flours, etc) are made in the same mills & plants that items that contain gluten are--and as a result many gluten free foods are in fact contaminated--even if only mildly.

I was thinking this is why talking to my mom might be a good idea. If for no other reason than to get a few web site addresses from her---so you could do your own reserarch about contaminance. She goes to recipezarr that I know.
and it is commom for people with a gluten intolerance to have dairy intolerance and that too has to do with say what the cow has eaten.
She drinks, uses Lactaid. and even certain eggs.

Carol, I would be happy to talk to your mom and get some advice from her and possibly share recipes.

Thanks Sheri!

Keep in mind also that gluten is added to many medication and supplement tablets to help the ingredients stick together. My friend's son is terribly allergic to gluten *among other things* and she had quite a time finding appropriate pills for him.

Reading may become your finest skill for a while.... labels, labels, labels.

Going gluten free hasn't been too difficult, it's the soy that's killing me. Soy is in everything, including vitamins and things. Terribly frustrating. I have become quite good at reading labels and never buy anything new without taking that step first.
