I'm bringing this back from last year,, It was cool seeing our flower pictures after sundown. flowers seems to take on a more vibrant display taken with cameras when it's dark Here's a few I've taken the past few nights orange symphony osteorspermum

Nicotina Lime

Hi Angelblossom, it's taken me a while, but I did take some night shots. We don't have much in flower here now, as it's nearly winter. These are nowhere near as good as yours, but here goes anyway.
I had to risk my life to get this shot of our flowering gum. I was standing nearly at the top of the ladder in the dark.
coooooooool Stevie!!!!!!!! Standing on a ladder in the dark Risk taker you are The Gum flower is very interesting,, Since you had to get on a ladder it must get very big! It's funny how the camera will pick up a view of flowers in the dark a little different than day light,,
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
I can't wait to try this when we actually get something blooming!
Merme
We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.
Angelblossom, The flowering gum is maybe 18 feet tall at the top. It can probably grow much bigger, but I will try and keep it pruned so it doesn't get away from me. Fortunately it is a slow grower.
I like the way a yucca shows up so shiny. It wasn't wet. Will have some more fun photographing plants in the dark! Looking forward to seeing Merme's photos (and maybe Maxi's as well!).
Diane, what is the rock under the orange symphony osteorspermum on the left?
that is a Foe' rock , it's a lady bug made of resin to look like a rock,, the bigger round rocks are truly rocks,
Stevie,, I saw your gum tree in the picture in the bird forum it is HUGE WOW<,,,,, and Yes I thought your yukka plant was wet ,, That is a cool picture in the dark!,,
Cheryl I wanna see some of your flowers in the dark too,
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
Thank you! The wind is blowing so hard the flowers are all blowing to the side. I never noticed the shadow but it is pretty neat! The pic of the bleeding hearts didn't turn out the best but I love them. I wish they bloomed longer!
Thank you Stevie! And yes, the bottom one is a geranium.
It is getting a little warmer here. Even though this morning we had frost so I had to cover everything last night. We haven't had frost in a few weeks and hopefully this is the last of it. We usually don't have frost quite this late. Summer is on its way though. Supposed to be in the 70s this week and I am really looking forward to it! Hopefully I have more blooms to share soon. My lilacs are blooming and crabapple trees are just about in full bloom. I will take pics soon!!
There's nothing like a crabapple tree in full bloom on a sunny day! I hope you have a great summer.
We've had our first couple of frosts, and the garden is starting to get that untidy look it gets every autumn (it doesn't help that every weekend seems to be taken up with something I have to do- I just want to get out in the garden!)
i have another one from last year .Nite shot . This plant only blooms at nite and I had to stay up till after 12 to get it. Cause by morning it is done.
The name is Nite Blooming Cereus ..I will go hunt it ..
Wow! That one is amazing! Do you know what insects it attracts in the middle of the night? You could easily miss ever seeing that one flower.
Remember the old Dennis the Menace story, where the grumpy neighbour had a plant that flowers once in a lifetime, and Dennis managed to distract him just when it flowered, and he missed it?
No Steve I dont know what insect it attracts? DO you ?
See I had it for years and seen it shut but never knew it opened at nite. Till I meet someone on line who waited up with me that nite, telling me what to expect.LOL It was quite amusing......Hubby stayed up too...
I think I know what sort of insect it attracts- a nocturnal one!!
It's interesting, I noticed that one of our roses has little scent during the day, but sometimes just when evening comes, the scent becomes stronger. It appears that the rose is targeting some pollinating insect that is around just at that time. Pretty clever, huh?
In the Dennis the Menace story as I remember it (it's a long time ago now), Mr Wilson had a flower that blooms for just a few seconds or something, once in a lifetime. The Wilsons had some friends around to watch the flower bloom. It was just about to come out, when Dennis got up to some mischief, and that was enough to distract everyone from the blooming plant! Very funny!
Us crazy photo gardeners......Keep us going huh? You sure have a great mind for doing things.
How are you liking your job now a days?
I notice there wasnt much traffic on dallas roads on the photos. Is that unusual? I know Houston is so bad they drive so far to work and park the car and take a bus to town?????????
