Today as I was at my kitchern sink washing dishes, along came a female oriole. As I watched her I noticed some pin feathers, so I assumed it was a young oriole.--after she left, a fewe minutes later came along a male--very pretty if not a bot small---OOps!! he too had pin feathers but not as many.----he leaves & along came another Orilole---male--with a LOT of pin feathers---I am jumpiong oput of m y skin aobut now----So was it really, possibly pin feathers I saw- could it be time to be seeing the juviniles already???


and OH MY< I am not done aobut 5 minutes later comes along a small downy woodpecker---kinda 'fat' too---so was this too a juvy??


any info would be appreciated---

It could be they were just adults molting, OR you could have Juvies. If you can get pictures it would be fairly easy to tell. Juvies have soft fleshy skin that is brightly colored at the conors of their mouth. Look at the mouths of the birds in my thread here called Babies. You can see this mouth characteristic there that I am talking about.

Thorny--I am not being difficult--in order for me to get photos of these birds they would have to allow me to either sit out on the deck (the feeder is hanging off of a pole off of the deck) with mt camera OR they woulkd have to stay when I opened up my glass sliding doors----the glass sliding doors have film on them, so I can not take pics thru them and there is a screen on the kitchen window that cannot be moved---not to mention that I do not have the quality of camera that you, dodge and sheri have boohoo

I will go and take a look in your baby bird thread--thanks for the info.
