A friend of mine got that scarecrow motion detector sprinkler to try and keep the herons away from her pond but she told me it did not work. If the animals are desparate, they will go through anything to get to food.

yea, when animals are desperate they WILL do anything. the motion sprinklers, ect might scare them once but if they are thirsty they'll come back. I picked the last of my peppers tonight and watered good. tomorrow morning I'm pulling up everything the deer have been eating. I'm officially a tomato, pineapple, and marigold gardener now! thumbup

Thanks Jiffy! (i'll take broke and happy over flush and miserable any day)

I see you've been where I've been.

they're not dead, Sheri.
and the deer aren't eating them.

Pineapples take several years to produce a fruit, I'm only a couple of years into the pineapple growing???

Morning all,
Been up awhile- fixed hubbys lunch.. had to redo the coffee pot- it's automatic but it must have been a little crooked cause it didn't work right , made a big mess so cleaned that up and refilled it for me and Mom- hubby can buy a cup at work.. he is hurting this morning but insists on going to work... can't wait till Mon... he needs to just let it rest but the man just can't sit still...
I left a post last night leaving coffee ready to go and muffins too- it is gone,,, the post (coffee and muffins to I expect) so guess I better do another batch and now they are nice and warm.. cofffee and juice is ready too... flag is flying outside... so happy day before the 4th everyone.

I have been up about half an hour. I did sleep in. My laundry is done until the next stuff adds up to a load. All clean sheets and blankets were nice to cozy into last night.
My daughter starts her new job today. She is pretty happy. I will miss her Teddy-sitting skills but I am happy for her. What a wonderful teen she has turned into after the miserable years. I still wish she would clean her room though.

Sleeping in is good- sure wish I could do it,,,oh well maybe someday... good look to your DD and her new job... and yes it's nice when they get thru the miserable teens and grow up some- as for cleaning rooms it's a losing battle I think.... I used to just shut doors till I could't stand it anymore.... and eventually they move out and only clean when they know you are coming over ...LOL!
Coffee is ready now and I am hoping my hubby is going to be okay at work too... he is off the weekend so maybe I can tie him to a chair to rest then... maybe...
Well Mom is up so gotta get her day started with meds and stuff- cool today here too- rained again last night...

it's a lot cooler here today dodge but too dry to plant. I was actually outside this morning and I'm thinking about pulling all those flowers out of the garden and starting over next year. It's gotten where it's such a mess. I just can't make up my mind.

Tina, the laundry is never done. There's just 2 of us here and the laundry never ends. Joni may never clean her room Tina. growing up my oldest, Shelley, always had a messy room. I found a piece of 1/2 eaten pizza in her underwear drawer one time. She just threw her shoes in her closet. She's grown with 3 children now, lives in a $300,000.00 house that is absolutely beautiful but is always a mess. She cleans up a little, like dusting and vacuuming, but her closets are a mess - can never find 2 shoes that match without a fight and the dirty clothes spot for Aubry (the baby)is the corner floor beside her changing table. She does clean out the tubs and sinks. They are financially stable but too cheap to hire someone to clean for her. For her birthday and Christmas I hire a lady from her church to clean her house. I'm not paying for it monthly when they have a lot more money than we do. But my daughter in GA, Ginger, is the opposite. After spending the other week with her I came home and cleaned out my kitchen cabinets. Her glasses and cups are in a straight line, her silverwear is perfect and her car is immaculate - even the glove compartment.

Do you water with a sprinkler or just the hose at the root of each plant? I've been taking your advice about everyday watering and I've been doing it on one side of the house with the hose at the root of every plant. Very time consuming but the plants look good. I've been setting a sprinkler in the wild flower garden on the other side of the house and it's not looking as good.

You have a science experiment going there, Sheri. I use soaker hoses a lot. They water only roots and less water wasting than sprinklers. I use flex pvc and drip lines a lot too. And some micro sprinklers on that where I may need wider coverage. But if you live in an area of deep freeze you need to bring those in for winter. Most of this can be hidden under mulch.

wavy well, grand puppies are walked, breakfast eaten, nap had, now i'm just trying to get hubby awake. his nickname in my family is "rip van eisenhart" they had never seen someone who could sleep so much and still go to sleep at night.

i'm puttering until i can get him motivated to go to harbor freight with me. i need a couple of trellises. i'm going to get one that is an arch to replace the one i lost. i may get 2 arches, if i find a good deal. i have the new mandevilla, my confederate jasmine, and a good friend has ordered me a new jasmine, a true jasmine sambuc. or jasmine sampac as i am used to calling them. i am so excited to get them grin

and i might dig up some of the carolina jasmine to see if i actually cultivated it, if it would have a scent. sheri says her's smells good. i've never noticed a smell, but it might be just because mine is too far away. it grows wild here.

Good afternoon---again--everyone!!! I had half a post done here, got up to do something for my DH and poof my post was gone--Oh well...

Sheri: My girls are like yours One is so neat & tidy and one has other prioritites in life. me I am somewhere in between. lol Although I DO like a neat & straight cabinet & drawer & closet. why

Barb: Congratulations on getting the Meringue Coneflower. The internet says it is "an improvement" on the Coconut Lime variety. You must share pictures with us soon.

Jiffy: have fun shopping--and I want pictures of your trellises when they are in place OK?? I had my grandpuppy for awhile last night too. Think we will ever get some "little people" to replace the furry ones??

Tina: I am glad to hear that your Jonni is growing up and doing you proud. It is such a joy to see that time in their lives when they finally do get to that point, huh???

Diane: So glad you have the day off---don't work so hard--celebrate the holiday some. If you really feel the need to work--go outside & spend some time in the gardens thumbup

Sherri: I hope that you one day get to sleep in too. I also hope that your DH gets to feeling better real soon.

Sheri
I have an inground sprinkler system for the yard,, BUT I have directed the sprinkler heads to spray away from the flower beds because I don't want the leaves of the flowers plants wet.
I use the water hose to water the flower beds and pots. Yes it is time consuming for sure,, but I do it every other day sometimes every 3 days.
I know it's better to give them deep watering every few days then it is to give a surface water everyday. Anything in clay pots tho I water everyday except for succulents that prefer dought conditions.
I still haven't done my Bird cage planter this year,,, I've got to get it done before Ambroja gets here the end of July,, she wants to see it all planted up. Shirley and I was supposed to have done it when she was here but we just ran out of time. boohoo

wavy

I got home from dialysis to find the boys inside the house -- and I was so surprised because this is the first afternoon we've had sunshine in four weeks! They were acting like it was another rain day! lol So, I encouraged them to go out & then one of the boys invited the other two to go swimming at his place, so Maxi ran back in to change & now he is off swimming. Ya gotta get it while you can -- if the sun is ever shining, go for it!

I always feel so bad for our tourists when the weather doesn't cooperate. They save all year to come to the beach... the visitors last week got an entire week of rain for their beach vacation! How sad is that?!

Tomorrow Maxi and I are just doing a small celebration because our big doings will be on Sunday getting him up to camp. You know I am hoping to squeeze in some rest tomorrow because Sunday will be fun but tough for me.

The only thing I forgot to get for our trip is Strawberry Twizlers. We always like Twizzlers on a long car ride. That isn't too bad in terms of forgetfulness considering how long & varied the original shopping list was. So, I'll have to get some tomorrow.

We've had the wettest June since 1917.
