I'm still chipping away at chores, but sorta in slow motion!

Hello everyone! I've had a pretty busy and productive weekend. It's amazing how much more you can get accomplished without taking cigarette breaks. We did a little bit of grocery shopping, I went to the fabric store and got some fabric and bead making supplies. I made necklaces and earrings for the girls for their birthday, I sewed a skirt, cooked a steak breakfast today, did some more shopping, and now I've got a banana bread experiment in the oven. Hope it turns out okay. Hope you all had a good weekend too! Glad I missed that water balloon,
Morning... up early but moving slowly.. hard to get moving after getting out of the routine for a few days... Joe is off to work and has a PT appt after... sure has made a difference in how he feels. I will go get the boys when they wake up... Carrie is letting them sleep in today but they want to come over here so will do the Nana's taxi thing and feed them then, we found new lunch boxes for them yesterday== Mario Wii on front with the racing game pic on the front-- will get the school lists today for them... hopefully will not have to big a fortune to spend to get all the stuff- Teresa said they had all sorts of stuff left over from her step daughters yrs in elementary school..they are all in middle or high now but accumulated a lot of stuff evidently... Okay got to go get my shower and start the laundry too... suppposed to be hot today so want to get it out before it heats up to much.. Nana
You get school lists this early? We don't get anything until about 2 weeks before the first day of school. It drives the kids nuts to go all summer without knowing what teachers and classes they got.
no school list here yet, either. And nothing is hardly ever accumilated from year to year. the parents that DO buy supplies for their children, the extra goes to the students who's parents DON;T buy supplies. some parents seem to think buying supplies is optional. I get so angry when I spend 60 bucks on school supplies and by Christmas time a note is sent home saying that my child needs glue or pencils. I'm having a cleaning and sewing day today. I wish I was this motivated everyday! we got some nice rain yesterday afternoon! and we have at 30-40 percent chance of rain every day for the next seven days! we might just have green grass before the first freeze yet!

Our kids don't have a supplies list. Glue and pencils, crayons, markers and paper are supplied by the schools. But as the wife of an ex teacher I know how difficult a teacher's budget is so I buy fun stuff for the whole class. Ted's special ed is like being in kindergarten forever, so I supplied a case of school glue and one of glue sticks. 12/64 ct.pks. of crayons, markers and a lot of other really fun stuff like pom-poms, wiggly eyes and chenille sticks (pipe cleaners). I had fun choosing a lot of construction paper in marbled and dappled colors. And reams of regular copy paper too. I took in buckets of foam shapes and white lunch bags to decorate. I did the same last year and before. It is wonderful fun to do. I still get to do more as the weeks go on. Ink for the classroom printer, and I think some more decorative copy paper. Maybe bright colored tissue paper. Ted's school year began July 6. He will be off for 3 more weeks in August before going back,. Technically he is a sophomore in high school.

Up here we don't wonder all summer about school supplies. All the big office supply stores (Staples, Office Mac) have sheets listing supplies by grade. So if you snag one of those early in the summer, all season long you can take advantage of the weekly sales & pick up a pack of pencils for a penny, etc.
I've had a heck of a day and feel pretty beat up, so I'm going to hit the couch.
Because I didn't want to use the new wheelchair today until I can talk to the company about replacing it, I went out this morning in the old chair supplied by my friend Angel's factory. Well, just as the driver was loading me into the van, he realized he didn't have the lift down low enough. Instead of backing me up, fixing the lift and trying again, he decided to just try jamming my chair over the difference in height.
Well, gee, all the spokes of the wheel on the front, right side, shattered into a million pieces! leaving it on a horizontal instead of vertical orientation. So, I had no front wheel.
The guy wasn't very organized and several times left me standing in a difficult position waiting for him, but in the end I stood up in the van while he took the broken chair to my porch, went inside & got the new chair I didn't want to use, and brought it back for me.
So I'm using the new chair and now there'll be no chance of exchanging it.
I had a snack of mackerel and saltines and some iced tea. I was starving and didn't feel like cooking! Grocery store tomorrow.
Now I will rest and probably be back later on.

mackerel, now that's an interesting snack. Does it come in a can?
I'm sorry the driver was having such a hard time, who knows why, but something should be said to him. That was a serious miscalculation on his part.
One of my grand daughters gets her list at open house and has to have the supplies the next day. That means they have to make a quick trip to the store right after they leave open house. We don't like that plan.
dang, merme....what a brut, know-nothing you got today! now you can't exchange your chair. that stinks! Well, I'm off work tomorrow too. time to seriously start looking for another job. this stinks, cause I really like the work and hours and even the pay, considering. oh, btw....I had a great time at the b-day bbq down the street on saturday that I was dreading so much in going to. none of us got anything to eat....the guy kept saying 'you want me to make you a plate'....(well, I don't know what you have and I don't want you touching my food....came to mind) it was an outside party and all the food was inside. NO ONE ate anything that I saw. but, there were a ton of kids, and I took my kido's bat and ball down and we played some baseball. those kids had the best time! and two lab pups that lived at the house took up ALL the slack in the outfield AND in the crazy pitching - 'who-could-hit-that-with-a- 20-foot- bat'. I had more fun watching them dogs! it was great fun!

Hi all, Still no school lists on the school website.. so I printed out last yrs... can't be much different I don't think.. Got my laundry done- and hung out- it's 88* they said on the news a while ago.. I got a message last night that my son broke his hand playing softball, he broke his pinky on his left hand - they don't know yet what they will do to fix it- swelling has to go down.. DIL called me 3 times today worrying before she knows what to worry about- she just tires me out- most of the time she worry's for nothing at all when all is said and done. Didn't get a lot of housecleaning done, to may phone calls ... did get some bills paid and lunch in everyone and then snacks too..have to clean out my fridge tonight I think... and restock some stuff from basement pantry and freezer- consolidate open bags of stuff that need it too... may make fridge soup tomorrow if I find enough stuff- crock pots will be going out on deck if it's as hot tomorrow as today... I really need to so some sticky chicken up too - do have it just need to make up the spice mix - hmmmm may as well stick roaster out there too... have about 20 lbs of chicken breasts I could do and bag and freeze up for meals... don't have boys tomorrow so just may get ambitious enough to do it.... Well better go and put load of whites in dryer- hubby hates when I hang out underclothes... silly man. Nana
I'm the same way, nana about the undercloths. even though we have 10 acres at the end of dead end road. no one would see our undercloths, IF I was to put them out, but I just don't like doing it.
GEEZZZ............I'm perturbed about being off work tomorrow!

just popping in a minuite to tell everyone that I may not be on for a week or so. Rod is taking me to a cabin retreat in Townsend TN. River Bluffs cabins I think it is called??? About 20 miles or 20 minutes from Gaitlinburg I think??? We leave tomorrow and we will be back Saturday or Sunday.
This is in honor of our 30th Wedding Anniversary. We were supposed to go in April, but of course we had to cancel--
There is supposed to be a computer in the cabin but I will believe it when I see it. If so I wll try to catch a mionute to come and visit.
Everyone "party hardy" in my absence......

I love hanging clothes out, especially whites. Whites never come whiter than they do drying in the sunlight. It is a great way to get rid of dingy's and odd stains. We can't hang out where we live now, but I sure do miss it and hope to be able to hang out again when we move.
Yes, Sheri, I buy Mackerel in a can. It comes in flat cans similar to a sardine can and in the same section of the store. The only trouble with it is, the oil in the can is very heavy and you don't want to eat it because it isn't flavored the way sardine oil is. So, I drain it pretty well.
I'm glad you had fun on Saturday, Cricket. I enjoy homespun ball games but wouldn't think of attending a pro ball game.
The problem with this chair is that it isn't waterproof and the seat is less firm than what I need. So I'm going to think about making a cover for it because I do not want it getting soaked all the time and having the need to sit in a wet seat.
There was a small tornado in Western Maine today. We don't get them often because we don't have the flat plains for them to roll across and gain strength, but we do get them once in a while... usually to the west of here.
Sherri I wish you'd visit here and help me plan to cook in quantity like you do!

Merme, if only you didn't live on the opposite coast we have loads of chairs that could use a good home. As it is we are donating them to our wheelchair supplier guy because part of his business is taking, refurbishing, and donating medical equipment to people in 3rd world countries. I've got gifts from afganistan, it's pretty neat actually. I hope the company can do something for you about that chair. I've never seen one in fabric before. Also, the office supply stores here post school supplies lists as well but even they don't have them yet. Not that it did us much good last year since a couple of their teachers didn't tell them what supplies were needed until the first day of school and of course they were expected to have them the next day.
Carol, have a wonderful time! You deserve it. You only had to cancel your april plans because you wanted to wait until the weather was warmer right?
Today was back to work day for me. Then we went to the grocery store to get dinners for tonight and tomorrow, except I couldn't get dinner for tomorrow because I have to go to a different store to get what I want. We had easy dinners tonight and tomorrow I'll cook. Our phone cases were delivered today, I was so excited. My phone case is, of course, green and it's perfect! I just got a new phone about a week ago and couldn't find a case I liked. I love the internet. Right now we're just relaxing, Aros is sleeping and I'm working on my virtual farm. Then it'll be off to bed.
I'm in Starkville, MS. Yes!! The house in Cincinnati is clean (good enough) painted (mostly) and we are not cleaning and painting. And it is advertised as...
Quote
Enjoy urban farming in Northside! Harvest rewards of numerous veg/perennial gardens on secluded lot set bk from rd. Spacious bungalow w/updated kit, lg study, 2 solariums, orig Craftsman features and cosmetic improvements throughout!
Cosmetic improvements. That would be the painting.
But the important part is we're not in Cincinnati. We're in Mississippi.
[I actually thought this through a while back. I do not think there's a city with as mannnny repeating letters, and as few letters, as Cincinnati. And I'm pretty sure there's not a state, except Ohio, with as few letters.]
I am officially tired but looking forward to tomorrow.

I am watering like a mad woman. I was up in the middle of the night twice to change which sprinklers or drip system were going. I am going to drop my son at school, come home and hopefully beat the worst of the heat and crank up my pole saw. That has been my plan the last few days but it hasn't happened. We will see.

School lists....Merme, Wal-Marts and such around here have school lists too but unfortunately they only have lists for the larger towns which does not include us. I print Tristen's off of the school's website. I did that yesterday actually. I need to start shopping. Usually I wait until mid August and then I have to run to different stores because they are sold out of certain things. Frustrating!! Hopefully I will get it done early and avoid all of that!!
Carol...have fun at the cabin!! How exciting!
We need rain here too. It rained a bit last night but not enough to do anything. The ground is so hard that it probably just ran off. We could use a week with soaking rain every day.
Morning all, this is the views we had from our cabin in the woods .. loved being there for sure... We got a late start this morning Joe forgot to set his alarm and I didn't wake up eaither so he had a mad dash to get up and out to work... he made it almost on time ... we went to bed late last night.. had a thunder and lightening storm that lasted almost an hour. complete with tornado watch and hail about the size of a quarter - didn't start till after 10 so we waited to see what it would do... few branches down and leaves all over the yard but nothing major... so thats a good thing- guess it really hit hard a few miles North of us and knocked out power and broke trees and power poles... what a mess. well off to start my cooking late but got to get it done. Nana
Cheryl, glad you're not taking smoking breaks but you're making me look really bad. I got up, ate, took a nap, went to bed, got up, went to church, ate, took a nap, went to bed. You must be moving at warped speed.
Congratulations on your anniversary Carol Jean. 30 years is a long time.
We got 1/2 inch of rain last night. It seemed like it rained for a long time but that's all the rain gauge shows. It had been 6 weeks with only a few drops until last night. I am so thankful. Bill and Tina I'm praying that you get rain soon.
Marica, I didn't know you'd already found a place in MS. Good.
I am in and I think finished for the morning. I did get the back fire road cleared off enough for a fire truck to pass through if needed. The branches were stretched across it and tangling and getting lower and lower from their own weight, some about 6 inch diameter. They brushed the top of the golf carts so I know a firetruck could not get through. I have fire wood, from this labor today, stacked and drying. And three truckloads of brush piled up neatly waiting to be hauled to the green waste dump. I was able to extend the pole saw full out and still handle it. I wasn't sure before that I could. If the heat and humidity hadn't chased me in, I'd still be out there doing more. I am feeling pretty good about today even if nothing else gets done. I have dishes sitting in hot water, cleaning themselves until it cools enough to plunge my hands in. And I have laundry to fold. I am only drying at night when it is relatively cool. So my day is good.

I am really not expecting rain here until late fall if we are lucky then. We may get some t-storms next month but usually not a lot of rain associated with those. Just unmeasurable sprinkling. Not always comfortable due to humidity and heat index stuff. But a wonderful light show. If we do get a downpour it usually does more damage than good, running off and not soaking in. I had a critter come along and un-pot a few plants last night. It didn't kill or eat them just dug them out of their pots. I wish they were tidier about it all.

Wow Nana, what a beautiful view you two had on your trip!
Belinda I'm sorry you broke your nails (ouch!) but glad you had a good time and are home safe and sound.
Tina you are really accomplishing quite a lot! It must feel good to get so much done in such a timely manner.
Sheri I had to chuckle when I read your description of your weekend... I've had weekends like that too! I quip that I've been behaving like a slug. But even so, I think times like that are important on many levels, so I say "Good for you!"
Jess, it is great that your Wal-Mart puts out the school lists. I wish ours did! I'm aware that stores such as Staples probably put them out -- along with the weekly school supplies sales -- in order to drum up summer business by getting more people in the stores. If folks come in for the penny sale, they will probably spend more than that also! Still, it is convenient if people don't mind shopping each and every week just to get the sale prices.
One of the charitable organizations serving local communities offers to get school supplies for the families they care for throughout the year. I know that is a big help to many people! They try to include such things as backpacks & lunch boxes for those who need them. I like supporting groups such as that for they do such good work.
I've had a busy day, finishing cleaning up various "piles" of miscellaneous my girls have created. My laundry is done; my room clean; business calls made.
Now I am ready to have some lunch and relax for a bit!
YAY!
