makes that loud crying noise? You know... the one we often hear in movies - like when they pan a silent, dry desert? It was also in the beginning of the tv show "Northern Exposure" I think.

The reason I am asking is that for the past few days I have heard this bird outside here, and I don't recall hearing it around here before.

Lynne the only thing I found about northern exposure intro sound track on Bird calls was the
Alaskan Loggerhead Shrike Bird,

I'm pretty sure it's a red tailed hawk.
Just listened to a sound clip and that is the sound I've been hearing.
