I did see that Jiffy. Thanks for the info. (I'm not all *that* new, though!! But am to CH.) It is useful to "meet" people with a condensed "bio" so to speak.

Thanks for the luck. We will surely need it! We are quick studies, but there's a lot to learn in a hurry, now that we are committed to building a log home. I keep thinking of the line from the original Smokey & the Bandit theme: "We got a long way to go and a short time to get there." Fortunately, it continues, "We gonna do what they say cain't be done." And they do!

I like your tick strategy!!

I don't like ticks either. Marica. You have my sympathies. And you made me itch and tingle just thinking about it.

I see many "dozers" in my future. Can't wait for that pic!!

We were paranoid for about 5 miles. I was driving and scratching at my head & John was picking pieces of lint out of his pockets. And now I'm scratching again.

I sort of skimmed over the later parts of your recent incident, Tina. This isn't going to affect *your* insurance, is it?

I don't think it will affect my insurance, no. And I scored points with both companies for turning down a rental. I have other options right here. So I am good. I have a new teen driver so the insurance is already hair-raising to pay. I did that tonight.

Well, I need to say good night. It is early but I'm about done in. I hope to get some more pole saw work in tomorrow before the heat runs me indoors again. I have too many widow-makers out there to make me happy. and it is so satisfying to poke some holes in the canopy for air flow. The added bonus of firewood is pretty nice too.

Ahh Thanks guys. I am so bad at keeping up, HAving 4 bulletin boards plus life itself is bad for Kim I am a major procrastinator. LOL
I have had my fill of rain, MY god thunderstorms and more rain yesterday, it is soaked here, No sun now, Supposed to be like this all weekend. I am worried about my tomatoes, they need warmth and sun. Will they ever ripen? I must download some pics I have taken recently. I am over run with hummers. HAd 8 last night buzzing around one feeder, I have five feeders but they sure are so territorial they pick which one they like best.
I also had 12 turkeys in the yard a few days ago, 3 adults and7 or 8 babies, I manages to snap a pic or two. until they high tailed it out of there. And last week, a few robins were just carrying on at the edge of the woods, Up in the pines by the garage, I could not figure it out until my eye caught a HUGE Owl, Gorgeous just sitting in the tree, trying to sleep with all that ruckous going on, I am sure they thought he was a big threat, I managed to get a few shots of him as well. I will get busy this afternoon and put them on Photobucket. Good day all. Kim kissie

Yay it's Friday and I have 4 boys to try and keep occupied for the next 3 days... and I am doing laundry.. it's hot today too 91* right now.... need to turn the cooler on in a minute or it will be way to hot upstairs to sleep...
If it doesn't rain we are thinking of taking the boys to the renisaunce fair on Sat... all outside in the woods so no fun in the rain. Will get my sis to take Mom for the day if we go....
Wel off to change loads and hang out the wet load... not going to waste the heat and sunshine...

I am glad it is Friday also. It has been a long week, one way or another. I did a lot of tree trimming this morning before the heat really came in. And plan more over the weekend. I really feel good getting stuff done but I am always looking for what job is next.
If it must be humid I wish it would just rain.

Thank God it is Friday! If I wasn't so exhausted, I'd be doing tumbersaults and cartwheels! My body isn't co-operating, but in my heart I am doing them.

One week to go and Maxi will be home and I'm so glad although it means he will be sad because Camp will be over for another year.

We had heavy rain again today and are in a flood watch this weekend for all the areas along the coast. I'm glad our complex is perched on a hill but I cringe to think of my friends and neighbors immediately at sea level and alongside the creeks and marshes.

Evening alll,
Got dinner done and dishes in dishwasher- will start it in a few...got all the boys bathed and brushed... pajamed (is that a word) Derek is asleep , Nicoli is watching Spiderman , Timba and Joseph are watching a movie too quietly.. Timothy will be asleep soon.. Joseph tells me he has a new girlfriend and he wants us to meet her Sun at his basketball game...before even Carrie and Jon ... and she is an "older" woman- going to be a junior to his sophmore- don't know if I like tht or not.... so glad I no longer have teens... just the kind I give back..
I almost forgot to take my clothes off the line-- got them in dryer for a few spins to make soft ... then can fold and put away..... have at least 2 more loads now to do with the boys clothes and the towels from tonight... probably should wash out my tub too but don't know if I will ... boys sure do leave a ring even when I add bubblebath..... ran out of kid stuff used my plumeria ... they smell good!
Well off to fold and put away... I sure like the new background choices--- blue is so easy for me to see... nite all... sleep well and rest easy.

Diane, I like the picture of the drinks with limes. Very refreshing.

Merme, we've had quit a bit of rain this week too. I'm not sure if the camellias are going to make it though. They've had a hard time with the 5 year drought, then monsoon rains for months, then no rain for 6 weeks. The foliage is still green and perky but it's sparse. I've never been able to see through them before. Maybe they'll fill back out. Sure hope so. I'll bet there 20 years old. (just like us)

Nana, I'm glad Joe is feeling well enough for an outing with the boys.

I fixed tilapia tonight. I've got to get a fish basket. I've been cooking fish a little in a frying pan sitting on the grill then putting them directly on the grill for a few seconds. If I can remember to get a basket it will be a lot easier.

I've created a nice menu for his first weekend home. We will be shopping on-line immediately for his netbook. I've narrowed the choices down for him with James's help so he'll have an easy time choosing. I've also cleaned his room thoroughly; sorted through his clothes to eliminate what he no longer wears; unloaded toys he doesn't play with any more. Everything is clean and fresh.

I also was looking at some student desks recently and I'm thinking of getting him a cool red one. 8th grade has different academic requirements and I think a good desk might really help him. The drafting table he has now is only really useful for his art. A serious desk will help with organizational needs as well.

August will be busy for us... he needs time to hit the beach and get in some boogie boarding; he will be taking his annual cruise out on Casco Bay; we'll be gearing up for school and having visits from out-of-state family and he's going to have to reconnect with his friends quickly because they've been stopping by to ask "WHEN will Maxi be home?!"

It sounds like you have some fun planned for Maxi for the rest of the summer, Merme.
I am going to call it a night. I plan on working again tomorrow until the heat drives me back indoors. Good night all.

I'm sorry to read that your camillias are struggling, Sheri. I do so hope they make it!

We eat Talapia all the time; it is good stuff and pretty inexpensive up here.

That's it for me to tonight.

Safe away home O my palies and sweet dreams to you all.

I plan on sleeping in but didn't happen(never does but oh well) did get to Farmers Mkt and looked around -got some maters and corn on cob for this next week when nephew is here, stuck it in freezer in a paper bag- stays good that way forever... will make salsa with the maters... or just eat sliced...brought back jalepenos from Az so have plenty to make salsa with...
Boy are being pretty good- took 2 of them to get shoes ... they were getting blisters from old ones.. not good... then we hit Sams and spent way to much money .. they are still remodeling the store- hard to find stuff in there but will be nice when they are done...
Well off to finish the laundry I started before we went out- need to clean some too . company arriving Mon or Tues .. and boys here don't know how clean it will stay... at least it's cooler today only 75*... nice.

Boy you need a nap after all that- we are coming up to our peach season too.. want to get some for the freezer for cobblers and crisps this winter... always crave them in the winter here- they just taste of summer...
Joe got the boys to play outside for a while- give me a chance to get stuff done a little bit... he even fed them lunch...looks like we may actually get some rain today- feels like it too... just really humid... well better take advantage while they are outdoors..

You are right, Di. Maxi is fond of my cooking. When he was little he would tell me he "could taste the love in it, Mommy!" I think children often feel pampered by their mother's cooking, so I'm not surprised Ambroja wants your lasagna!!

You have got much done already, Diane! I hope your nap helps.

Nana, you never slow down for five minutes, it seems! I have never shopped in a Sam's although there is one in South Portland. Perhaps someday I'll go with someone who has a membership, just to check it out. One of my friends always gets her gas there.

When you said you put the corn in a bag in the freezer, did you mean you put it in raw?

Nana, do some of your grand children live with you?

Merme, I'll bet Maxi is getting anxious to get home. It's nice to go away but great to get back home.

Diane, I'm so excited that your daughter is coming. Sounds like you've got it pretty much under control.

No, they don't, Sheri! But with that miniature army of grands that she has who are always seemingly underfoot, you'd swear they all reside under one roof! There is a well-beaten path to Sherri's house created by the kids and grands a-coming and a-going!

Maxi always gets sad to leave camp because he loves it so well, but as you say, Sheri, he is also always glad to get home again.

He has three more summers to look forward to being a camper, then the fourth summer from now (after his Junior year) he can be a Counselor In Training, then after his senior year, he can be a full counselor and work there for the first of what I'm sure will be several happy summers through his college years.

I'm making dinner and the smell of it is driving me crazy... I wanna eat NOW! not when it is done!

Sheri
We gave the kids a weekend away at a B and B for their 9th anniversary... and that meant we keep the boys for the weekend too... I am the only babysitter any of them have ever had - the other Nana keeps them for an hour or two but they seem to wear her out... and she is younger than I am ... LOL!
I bet Maxi does have very mixed feelings about being at camp and coming home again...he always seems to enjoy his times there... but coming home is always good too..
Diane I bet your kids do love coming home to your home cooking- couple yrs ago I made up a book of our family receipes for each kid and spouse... they still say I make stuff better than they can- personally they just prefer me to cook for them but I do see them all the time..
Yes we just stick the corn in raw and take it out just before we are ready to cook it... learned that trick from a cooking board on Yahoo a long time ago...
Well we are making chili dogs and fries for dinner... Joe is grilling them now- so guess I better get the fries cooking too... boys will be starving ..

Nana I had to go back and edit the post where I was talking to Sheri and mentioned you, Sherri. I got lost in all those r's for who is whom! yikes

haha

idjit girl at work again, it seems.

The other day when I was feeling so poorly, I went on You Tube and watched ALL the videos from three seasons of Britain's Got Talent. So many of the audition videos cracked me up I had to watch them a second time. But several of the auditions were so surprisingly lovely, I had to watch them over and over. Now I'm a fan of several people I never knew existed before! It surely was a great way to spend sick time... and cheering myself up to boot.

bopMerme and Sheri,
When ever I talk Sheri I have to make sure I spell her name right- there are so many ways to spell our name it's not even funny... went to school with so many Sherri's all spellled differently... and I have a cousin with my name too... my mom said when we were little I told her she had to give my name back cause it was mine first- I am a couple weeks older than her... she never did!

Hi all,
I have more or less raised these boys so they know just how far I can be pushed- they get to me sometimes but I have way more patience now then when my kids were little- I started at 17 so been a Mom a long time-... grands are more fun cause while I do have to discipline cause they are here a lot we have fun too . I loved when they were little babies but its fun now that we don't have the whole diapers and potty routines... our trip was fun cause they were big enough to enjoy the places we went and learned stuff too... it's amazing just how much they have picked up in school about different things...

I know, I feel bad at how quickly my kidos can drive me up the wall. especially now that my BABY is looking me eye to eye. I know they are growing up so very fast!

I almost feel guilty when merme isn't around when the rest of us are chatting in the CH. lol

I think the weightiness of good parenting and the fact that much of our children's characters rely on us, makes us less able to flat-out just enjoy being with them in the way people can enjoy being with grands.

That's my theory, any way.

For instance, if our kids "act up", we get concerned thinking of all that could imply, including a possible troubled road ahead. If our grands "act up", we know they are going home soon and it is a matter for the parents to remedy.... and even possibly the parents fault and not our own! lol

So says she who isn't a g'ma yet!!!

Nsna you started having babies 22 years before I did; no wonder I like to hear what you have to say about lil ones.

Cricket it is nice to see you, too.

Good evening everyone! Been busy over here the last couple of days. Yesterday the kids got here for the week. Mandy's friend had accidentally dropped her phone in puget sound so we had to go out to the apple store last night to buy a replacement. Her friend paid her for it and everything turned out okay. She got a new phone for cheaper than we thought and she was able to give some money back to her friend. I had a terrible time sleeping last night, woke up at 7 and gave up on sleep. Went for a run/jog and then did the grocery shopping. Once everyone else was awake we started house cleaning. The kids grandma will be here tomorrow so we did a really good cleaning today. Took all day to get it done too. I made an easy dinner of brats, beans, and potato salad. Tomorrow morning our company arrives and the rest of the week will be up in the air. Not sure how much online time I'll have but hopefully enough to fulfill my farmtown addiction, lol. Hope you are all having a great weekend and are staying cool. They are predicting a heat wave for us this week, temps in the upper 90's. That's bad around here, most places don't have air conditioning, except supermarkets and restaurant chains. I'm glad at least my work has air conditioning.

Hi Cheryl ~ it is nice to see you on in spite of your busy-ness! I'm glad everything worked out well with the phone replacement but it is a shame it happened. I dropped a brand spanking new still in the box telescope in the Hudson River when I was in 8th grade. It was heartbreaking! Isn't it nice to have the house all cleaned up? Such an accomplishment!

Public places are just now beginning to be air conditioned here in Maine. When we first moved here, the few places that did have a/c (restaurants) would use that fact in their advertizing! lol

Your dinner sounds yummy. Sometimes easy is best.

Morning all,
I too and a farmtown addict... so I know how it is .. we are having company this week also and the neiece in law who is coming planted pumpkins on her farms just before she left so they would be ready to harvest when she gets here.. only slightly nuts...LOL!

Joe woke me up early with his snoring... he had major allergy attack yesterday.. we had rain so can't quite figure out why..rest of house is still sleeping - even Mom so I am going drink my coffee and read the paper till someone else wakes up... may even have some toast and applebutter..

I have to clean up this house too with 4 boys in it... that should be fun as it's muddy outside now too- maybe I can get Joe to take them to the park for a while.... hmmmm that just could work.
