lynne, i am thinking i need some brugs for my "moon garden" i am planning. that one is so pretty. maybe you could send me a few seeds? all my gardening will be in the dark from now on, so i'm planning "moon gardens"

Jiffy - I have never gotten any seeds from any of my brugs, but I will have cuttings just before our first hard frost. I don't know about where you live, but here I have to overwinter them indoors.

they grow year around here. i see them, just never got any out. but i've finally gotten scott on board with making me some beds!

if they make seeds that'd be great, but i'd hate for you to go to the expense of shipping cuttings.

the seeds are there they are are just hard to spot and get to in time.
Jiffy wouldn't have to bring in brugs they can stay in ground all year,, just before the first freeze they would have to be cut down to about 6 inches then covered with leaves , and a bucket or container/pot of some kind with a "Breathing hole"(drain) in it, filled of leaves and turned over on top of the leaves, come spring take off the container, and every few days start to move away the leaves untill they are all taken off and it will grow again.
I don't know about them being a MOON type plant,, Mine open during the day ,,, the same ones I sent Lynne (cuttings) (that her are blooming now,,) Sometime they open at night and sometimes day,, in the fall it's day time in the heat of the summer it's mostly very early morning, it takes 2- 3 full days for it to open and reveal it's true color. They require a lot of water and regular feedings,, I consider them a High maintenance plant , particularly in the southern states where it's much hotter for much longer thru the seasons.
A Good moon garden flower would be the Moon VINE,, It will give back plenty of seeds,, Low maintenance, just needs water every now and then once established. It produces Big 5 inch white Blooms the hummingbird moths love them.

I am zone 9 and maybe even an 8 given my elevation. My brugs are about 7-8 ft tall now and doing well just being treated like most of my other shrubs. Sun most of the day until mid-afternoon. They are late to lose their leaves and early to regrow them in late winter/early spring. I only have to trim for shape or crossed branches and things in early spring. They do like a lot of water. I don't ever remember special feeding. I just toss out whatever I have going about once a year. They do tend to bloom mostly evenings for the best show and scent. But they are beautiful during the daylight hours also. Mine seem to bloom best when there is a full moon.

I don't think The moon matter with them in particular,, Could Be ?? But it's not something I'd vouch too for me anyway,, Mine have bloomed as late as Late November last year,, I feed mine lots when they are showing buds. The last three years I've experimented with them it's been a learning process to say the least. Njoynit taught me most from there I started experimenting, the ones that get afternoon shade don't bloom as well , or as often. The ones with full sun most of the day bloom 'skirts' as Lynne's Charles G., has done this year,, so far she's had 2 skirt flushes,, YEAAAAAAA LYNNE,, and looks like the Adora with have a chance for another Flush! It's interesting how different zones show different growth/ bloom and time of day/night blooming patterns,, ( another learning experience) I like that we members that have them are in different zones and compare notes,, Cooooool!

Quick question: if I don't dig up my brugs in time and there's a light frost, will they be ok? How bout if it's a heavy frost?

Mine have been through frosts of sorts, Kenny. Not like yours maybe but down into the upper 20's in the night for an hour or two. They will lose their leaves but they do come back in spring. I just don't know how they do with heavy frosts. I hope you can get to yours in time to dig them before any major damage.

Kenny,,,a heavy frost will turn them Black then they are done,, IF you can't get them dug up then get some thick cutting below a "Y" to the "y" with give blooms next year.

We've had a weeks worth of rain I have lots of buds on my brugs,, including Dr, suess,, I'm sooooo excited,, Dr, suess didn't grow enough to bloom last year,

I've had one bloom on mine. Jiffy those are so pretty and Diane I'm jealous of your rain.

dodge, gramma's brug was easily 5 1/2 feet tall. as tall as me, or taller. that is the gutters on her back porch you see hiding behind the jasmine behind the brug.

Mine have grown a little taller than the eaves so 8-9 ft?

Mine too My unnamed pink is now at least 2 foot or more above the 7 ft fence It now has at least 30 Buds on it,, The Dr. Suess has 7 and even Charles G finally has ONE the rain sure helped them along!.

Thats a nice topper,but would need a ladder to smell them!

I've not had much blooms this summer.Mainly my faithful new buy in March variegated peach.It has bloomed faithfully every 5-6 weeks with at least a dozen blooms every time.Daydreams is blooming now,but not loaded pictures(well facebook has a shot)

I got Creamsickle that will bloom one flower,but has some smaller buds starting.Got some buds on butterfly(or its milk N honey)got a bud on Sunray,more small ones on jamicia yellow(its only bloomed 3 times)I was hoping my fall would be full of blooms.Least we are getting rain now!But is muggier than a sauna right now with the door stuck shut....and folks in montana with SNOW up to their knees!I got seedlings growing...even some of my own crosses.I got some intresting cypress gardens x NOL seedlings my own cross and gonna cross that one some more.

I got milk N honey to bloom tonight.It is like a sauna outdoors!Creamsickle blooms tomorrow night.Unknown pink by the house has topped the eaves& looks to be fixing to 'y'

no, didn't float away. we were mostly in a good position. atlanta got the brunt of it, and folks just slightly south got the run off. thanks for asking! and yes, the drought is over!!
