I've been growing Brandywines for the past 2 years. They taste great but their skin seems a bit tougher than I think it should be. Any way to correct this? They get plenty of sun and I've added compost to the soil and give them plenty of water. Am I missing something?

I know this does't help you, but I just recently heard of these...May I ask you what is special about them? They must be good since you keep growing them... I am just curious..
I hope someone is by soon to help.

They taste great and I didn't have any issues with them when I grew them in NY. Since moving to North Carolina, however, I've noticed that although they still taste great, they have a slightly thicker skin (maybe it's the higher clay content). I think I'll try a different type next year. Any suggestions as to which kind of tomato would grow best in soil with a high clay content. PS- I do ammend the soil with compost and potting soil, as well as a little bone meal.
