Hi Carol,,,, I just threw some pizza rolls in the oven It's been a movie watching afternoon here.

It is a sleeping fest here, I have taken 2 1 hr naps today and I am still tired ---
but I did just put a load of clothes in the washer----it never ends does it????

I need to get up and begin moving---if I do not I wll fall asleep AGAIN!!!
if I do THAT you will all have to stay awake tonight (as in when all good garden helpers should be fast asleep) and keep me company.

hello, everyone! I haven't been on here in a couple of days, and you can imagine my surprise. there have been some changes, huh? it took me 5-10 minutes just to navigate my way here. I thought my poor OLD computer was gonna lock up before I made it. whew!

were having a big feast here tonight. I went to the grocery store earlier and fresh corn, watermelon, porkchops, were on sale super cheap! I've been slow cooking on the pit, working on my quilt, and we started a puzzle, so I've been piddling with that today too. I should do some cleaning, but I don't feel like it. all I've done cleaning wise today is wash bathroom rugs.

Diane, did your family already come and I missed it. I tried to read back and can't find it because it's too much to read everything.

Cricket what about the Forum Changed in the last couple of days? Other than Garden chat Being moved up and a couple of main areas at the top line of the page it makes it much easier to navagate then before, but I haven't noticed anything else,,

so it was just me???
I used my short cut to get here, like always, but it took me directly to wild willy page? maybe I should just re-do my short cut. once I did get here where everything looked and worked familiar all was the same.

I cooked for just the fam. they took off to the lake, not even a mile from here. I told them this huge supper would be ready in an hour. I figured they'd be gone at least two hours anyway, but now were working on three hours. I feel like I should go check on them, but I'm not really feeling up to getting out, even for that short little jaunt. I guess I'll give them a bit longer. they're probably just having fun.

Ohhhhhh I see what you're saying you used your desktop short cut??? that's why~~~ Wild Willy is changing them out,, My short cut comes straight to banter hall

Well, my tree guy came and went. He cut me a good deal and I will get all of those trees topped that are concerning me. And they will chip and shred and haul the stuff to our green waste dump here on the ranch. I will get the firewood and it will be cut to length. I will need to stack it neatly for drying but I can do that. And I can split the fat stuff later on at my leisure (which is an oxymoron if you have ever split wood). So I am about ready to head toward my bed. They are going to arrive between 7:30 and 8 tomorrow. John would be happy. Those were on his mind a lot the last few years. It has been over 10 years since they were last topped.

Tina - I am glad that you got things worked out to get this done, and at a good deal. It sounds like you are really cleaning up around there - I wish you had a camera so we could see some before and after pictures, and see all your progress you've been making.

Just curious and you don't need to answer if you feel I am prying - have you ever told us how big your ranch is? It sounds like a large area, which is wonderful!

Oh No, Lynne! The before photos would be much too embarrassing. Things really got backed up around here. I would actually love to take before and after pics of some of it though.
I am rewarding myself by ordering plants to plant in the cleared areas. And if I plant them I am more likely to keep on maintaining them. An ongoing incentive to myself. And I am indulging myself with blue flowers wherever I can. And some wonderful smelling things, too. So I have things in surprise packages coming from now until early spring to look forward to.
This is not 'my' ranch. It is a ranch where John brought up his mobile home to live temporarily about 24 years ago. It had a ranch house on it at the time but that has since been removed last year. So we actually pay space rent.
John began by building a roof over his trailer. Then adding rooms all around. Until we have an interesting house.
This ranch is about 17 acres I think. I'm not too sure. But getting water to all of those acres for planting is tricky. So most of the plantings we have are fairly close and cover about a half acre. That is another guess. There was one tree here when john parked. There are now a few hundred. So many I have a hard time finding sunny spots (that I can water) for some of my plants.
I do have 20 acres on the other side of the mountain without amenities or buildings. I really don't want to live there though.

Tina, I am glad that it is all working out so well with the trees--and yes i know about splitting wood--we used to own a splitter---we had hot water heat in the farm house for about 10 years--that is the best heat there ever was/or is. I miss it so much--
Rod used to talk about putting in a smller stove for me in this house but I cannot fire it up any longer so no use even seeing about working that out.

I am very envious of you my friend. :wink:

Carol, I have two woodstoves in the house and a fireplace. The woodstoves on each side of the house do a good job keeping the house toasty. The fireplace looks nice but tends to suck the heat from those stoves straight up the chimney.
I also have 3 wood splitters. Two can be attached to a trailer hitch and hauled wherever I want. The other is a huge monster that uses a car engine to run and will handle four foot diameter logs. This one I want to get rid of. It is ugly, takes up too much space and I have no ability to split logs that large. I will scrounge around in my photobucket for a pic I know I have. Maybe tomorrow

Cricket, when I logged on this morning at my work computer I got the Wild Willy page too. It took me a second to figure out where I was. Everyone needs a little excitement first thing in the am.

Tina, we've been thinking about using 4-1/2 of our acres (the field on the other side of the driveway) as a trailer park. And using our house as the office. I'm sick of living in the middle of nowhere. I need to do some research and find out what we need to do to make this work. It may just be a thought and I might change my mind next week but that's the thought for the day.

I had to take an allergy pill last night and they make me feel terrible. We've had a man redoing ceilings in our house and his promise to clean up the sheetrock dust needs work. I think I'm going to have to tell him the definition of "clean" if he ever returns to my house. I cleaned my bedroom for hours yesterday. Johnny has cleaned his bedroom and his bathroom twice now but that powder keeps settling. I stayed away when the man was sanding because I know that I'm allergic to the dust and stupid me believed him when he said "there won't be any dust when I get through." Liar liar pants on fire.

They SAYit is going to rain today, but then they have said that for the last week. & I think that we have gotten like 1/2 an inch all told for the time in question.

I still have that asthmatic cough even after taking my medicine and being out of the house. By the time it goes away I'll have to go back home. I checked on a cleaning crew to wash down the walls and floors and they want $120.00 an hour. My house is 1700 sq feet or there abouts and they figure it will take 2 of them 5 hours. Wonder how much work they actually get hired to do.

Speaking of which and getting off the subject. Johnny put in a water line the other day and some woman had mentioned to him at breakfast that she was out of work and was looking to start a handy woman business and to keep her mind if he had extra digging or if his helper was out or for anything. He is so good hearted that he thought he'd give her a little work and called and asked her if she wanted to cover the ditch (after the water line was in) with dirt and put straw and a little grass seed over it. He says it usually takes them 20 minutes but it gave them the chance to get to the next job faster. He thought she'd charge him maybe $50.00. He didn't even ask what she'd charge. He said she was happy to get the work and they left the job. 45 minutes later he got a call saying she'd come by where he was to get paid and would prefer cash and "it's $100.00 sir and that's a good deal." He paid her without complaint and told her he wouldn't be calling her again. That he pays his helper $20.00 an hour and will just keep him at the job an additional 20 minutes before he's ripped off again. She then had the nerve to ask him to hand out her cards to his clients. He politely told her that he couldn't suggest to his clients that they get ripped off either. I am proud of him. He is so nice that people push him around all the time. So much for people wanting to work.

If my plan for a trailer park ever comes to fruition I don't know where we'd move. Johnny can live anywhere with his job but I don't want to have to drive for an hour to get to mine. Where we live isn't convenient to anything or anybody. My oldes daughter lives 16 miles away, which isn't far of course, but we're not on the way for her to do anything. You have to go around the world to get to our house even if it is a short distance.

Good morning everyone. I have been out finishing clearing out an area so it can get messed up again. I was dancing with my rake. I am pretty happy.
Check out all of the expense of your trailer park, Sheri. Here they are not cheap to start up. An RV park/campground is a bit easier. But still to follow all of the codes and laws for mobile homes is not an easy thing.

I am glad to hear that Johnny stood up for himself.---I hope that that lady learned a lesson.

I completely understand about living away from everything--anf from your kids too. Mine both live about 30 miles away---they say it takes 30 minutes--well yea as the crow flies, but as I am not a crow it takes anyhere from 40 to 50 minutes for me.

Tina - thanks for explaining about your ranch last night. It sounds like you are doing an awful lot of work for land that is not your own. I am very impressed. May I ask where your land is on the other side of the mountain? The reason I ask, is that when we lived in Reno for 7 years, Don did a lot of field work in surrounding states in the mountains and he would probably be familiar with the area.

Sheri - it's good to see you posting - I was wondering about you the past few days. Sounds like your Johnny is a very sweet guy. The way he handled that woman was wonderful - I would have been much more upset!

We had another downpour last night, with high winds this time. The front and backyards are full of leaves that blew down, and Brian just did the lawn for Don on Saturday. We are to have thunderstorms every single night this week. Enough is enough here already!!!

Today is supposed to be the hottest day of this summer so far. Into the low 90's with a heat index to 105. I would not be going out, but I have some errands to run that cannot wait.

Welll everyone I am on my way out to begin my days MIL errands.

Whether I actually own the land or not has not been an issue here. John and I have carved out a living space that pleases us. It also pleases the owner a lot because it is pure beautification and not on his nickel. And we maintain it too. For this and other volunteer garden stuff, we pay much less in space rent than most people in California would be paying. So If I had to move it would not be a financial loss at all. Just heartbreaking because I love it right here.
I live on the eastern (southern) end of a pass through the mountains that is a main thoroughfare around here; for traffic, trains and planes. On the other end of that pass, north (west) is a high desert region of Calif. Out there I have 20 acres of rolling land. We own that outright with only taxes due yearly. This is outside of a town named Phelan. Plelan has two pronunciations. The young folk tend to call it "Feelin' " and the older folk call it "Failin' ". It is not desert dry sand like most of us think of desert. It is chock full of growth although not tall trees. Nothing much over 15-20 feet. And there is water pretty close by if we wanted to dig a well.
But this side of the mountain is my home where I was born and raised.
And my tree people are here so I am excitedly keeping away and letting them do their thing. I just heard the first chain saw crank up.

it sounds beautiful and you sound happy. Contentment is more than half the battle. I think you are one lucky lady.

I am basically content here. I am feeling a little stressed sometimes because I have all of the labor of maintaining it all to take care of myself. And that maintenance is backlogged a bit. But also pretty happy to have it all to myself. No one else to tromp on my plants or to 'help' weed them all out. I can do my own plant tromping.
When I get it all whipped into shape over the next few months then it will be easier to keep up too. I hope, at least. I can always hire out parts that are too difficult for me. But I am a miser and want to keep as much money hidden in the proverbial mattress as possible. And work out there is better than joining any gym.

I'm home. It's been a long & difficult day. The weather is sultry today. I wish it would rain (!) and make the air a bit better.

We actually got a bit of rain today. I could kick myself for not remembering to put out my big container to catch some rain water for my indoor plants!

Glad you are home- we are cool and sticky today, only 81* and a storm is on the way but not here yet- can feel it in the air though.... got the boys - Carrie took Joseph to registar for school- and now am keeping them so she can clean house and do laundry... Joe has his PT appt today... so will be awhile beofre he gets home .... get some rest and feel better Merme...

you'r butterfly icon there reminds me of the puzzle we are currently working on. MAN, those puzzles can be addicting! this one is a collage of stamps, and I have been looking for that one last piece that would complete the yellow and black butterfly stamp square!....(the one that shows up beside your name) I gotta talk myself out of going back.....leave the puzzle alone for a while, cricket! *cricket pacing, yanking small amts of hair out*

You reminded me of one of my favorite puzzles, Cricket. I bought it for my boyfriend at the time. It was from Playboy and had a girl standing in front of a black velvet curtain, so mostly skin tones and black (with a little blond hair). But it was two-sided and the back was the rear view of same girl. Interesting putting that together. It was a little bigger than a centerfold.
The tree guys are just about done (7 1/2 hours). That side of my house looks pretty naked.

I still have two puzzles I haven't put together yet my grandsons gave me.
One is a fairy scene when complete glows in the dark and has sparkles on it. the other is a small Italian village with a sting of tiny lights you place in the windows of the village stores and homes and street lights. The later would have to be glued on plywood with holes in the ply wood at the exact point where the lights have to be inserted,, could be why I haven't put that one together yet.
The Fairy puzzle I just keep forgetting I have it.

boy, that one with the lights having to be glued to plywood and the holes cut out sounds VERY involved.....too involved.

how would one display a two sided puzzle?...put glass on both sides and suspend from the ceiling? I would NOT have the patients for a two sided puzzle! I do good to keep my sense about me and enjoy a one sided one.

a friend of mine has done a dozen of the ones that are round on the the edges. she has them glued and hung on the walls. they are all fantasy type with the unicorns, and yep some naked ladies here and there.

I have a huge roast in the oven that is just about done. I don't feel up to a big meal with all the fixins, so were gonna slice up with some cheese and onion and wrap up in a tortilla.

it's even better with brisket, but a roast will do.
