This afternoon, Rod is working in the garage & so he has the back door and his garage door opened. he came in a bit ago & told me that a hummingbird had flown in and now cannot figure how to get out. We tried to direct him with brooms to an open door but he is having none of it.

I so wish we had a butterfly net, but sadly, we do not.
'
I hope he finds his way out---in the mean time I am glad there are plasces in the garage that he feel safe resting on.

The doors are still opened (all 3) But Rod just came & got me---he/she is gone now--well unless he/she is sitting on the garage doors (they are raised right now).

I am hoping that it found a way out, as we cannot leave a door open all the time, so a nest in the garage is not a good idea, although wouldbt that be fun?? I could watch the whole process up close & personal--oh well---

OK--I am going to try this again---

I keep losing posts but not until I am just about done typing and proofing them---and it is frustrating---so here is my 2nd try........

This morning when I was getting ready to leave the house, I found a hummingbird on the floor by the passenger door of my car. I think this is the same bird that ws in the garage last weekend, and that we THOUGHT got out on its own.

It's wing was tangled up in a web of what looked like bird nest makings in a spiders web. I picked it up and took it to one of my flower beds where it would have shade while it recovered. I then carefully removed the web/nest makings from its wing. it seemed to flounder a bit but finally got to sitting upright.--I brought it some nectar, in a bowl and also put some in a plastic lid. It would only drink if I spooned a bit onto its beak so it had to lick it up off of itself. So I left it alone and went back out at noon to check on it. It was gone so I guess it ate enough to regain its strength. why

also:.. ...Note to Thorny:

I think you had better get yourself some new "Bird-stapo" employees--apparently this bird got away from them, huh???

I have handled hummers twice while they were disoriented. Once when a fledgling first started to fly and was disoriented. And another that was disoriented from an unknown reason, probably our heavy winds caused an accident of some kind. Both recouped and flew away. The first with mom and dad. It is exciting and memorable. We have also helped out a couple of fledgling owls. They are wonderful up close, too.
I am glad that yours probably recovered and flew to a new day, Carol.
