It's a female Downy Woodpecker. They like suet, especially peanut flavored suet. ALL Woodpeckers do. Woodpeckers are one of the group of birds I specialize in more than other groups of birds.

I did see a woodpecker with a whole red head, running up the tree trunk. It flew in and did that ......Was that daddy?

Out in the field in the spring I watch lots of these downys on the grass setting.

i better write that down.

If it was a solid red head then it is a Red-Headed Woodpecker which is quite rare in my part of Tennessee. I've only seen TWO in 21 years of studying birds. Try to get a PICTURE OF HIM!

Yep we have some birders that have been doing this for over 50 years!!!
